Free engine has no content in default installation.

Hi.

Just as an issue: I would like to log a request that the default free engine should include some sort of bible at the very least.

I installed l5 on someone else's computer, and I don't want to install my content to test out L5 on their computer (and I think that'd breach licensing too).

(1) I just wanted to quickly test L5 out to decide if I want to install it on my computer (as it'd be an offline installation)

(2) I might have left the free engine on this computer (which is not mine) if it actually had a useful purpose. However it doesn't have even one bible packaged with it.

(and the person who owns this computer is an absolute noob, and wouldn't be likely that they'd be capable of doing anything remotely complex regarding installing personal logos resources that others make available. They'd just give up, and never use this software thinking it is broken. Obviously the free engine is not broken, but from the perspective of a noob (heck even me with a computer science background) could easily dismiss this software's 'free engine' as not fulfilling any useful purpose.

(3) additionally even cripple ware actually provides some content - even if it is totally unusable! Please take this as a nudge. I'm not trying to knock Logos into the gutter or anything.

In summary: could someone at Logos log this as an issue please? Thanks.

also this presents another issue:

If logos forces the installation to be made via the internet.exe rather than an offline_install.exe then this means:

1. I have to install it on a computer that I dont own,

2. get the offline_installer.exe from this.

3. then uninstall Logos from the computer that I dont own (because it has no useful purpose to exist on that computer because it has no content at all)

Logos offers free resources => https://www.logos.com/products/search?sort=pricelo&pageSize=30&unlocked=no that can be "purchased" by a Logos user, which includes many Bibles.

Logos licenses resources to individuals for use on their electronic devices.

Personally have used wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers to clone a Logos 5 installation from my laptop to my tablet. Note: the tablet has a slow Atom processor so did not want to wait for days of indexing; tablet is always offline so can avoid need for anti-malware software.

With one bible installed you wouldn't learn much. Here's a comparison of L4 vs L5.

The purpose of this point escapes me because removing the installation is a no-brainer vs. letting somebody else have a potentially illegal copy.

Logos is a digital library; it doesn't operate at its full potential if it there is just one Bible installed. We don't produce a limited version like this, because we don't think it would really demonstrate what Logos 5 is like.

That said, if you did want to produce a stripped-down, barebones "demo version", you could download the free engine, unlock the LEB (http://www.logos.com/product/6162/lexham-english-bible), and register for the FSB (http://faithlifebible.com/) to get some additional free resources.

1) I know. but this wasn't my goal.

2) I guess I could interpret that a couple of ways ( without thinking of any type of offensive interpretations). I guess what I meant is that I have Zero intention of doing anything illegal - and you should hear me parrot on in this regard offline to other people.

Anyway's what i meant is since this is not my computer, if it came with a free bible - the person who owns this computer might have thought - ah I'll click on that bible software there and just read a couple of verses.

That was just my thoughts.

also if Logos wanted Logos installed broadly this is a logical step. (ie every other bible software that is downloadable always comes with at least a bible.

I fully respect the goals of Logos.

(1) If someone registers with a credit card (even though not actually purchasing anything) then they will likely come back and purchase something..

(2) that Logos would like to demonstrate the full potential of Logos. and that the free engine is not really intended for the purpose I have mentioned - it is to give existing owners of Logos content the L5 engine.

That said, I was just saying. There are plenty of ankle biter Bible programs that just give the downloaded some super basic material just so that the bible can be read - for logic sake.

In summary I was just saying it makes sense in my view - otherwise I wouldn't have bothered sharing it on the forum.

yep I understand this tactic as I mention to Bradley.

However for the owner of this computer, they wouldn't dream of online banking or credit card use, and signing up for any website is a marathon task, much less going through all the hoops required by the current process.

Does that make sense?

I wasn't really saying it for my sake, I was saying it for those who are excluded just because the process is too much just to get something to try.

If you were that person would you download the free engine, then after 1/2 hour of trying to work out how to download some bible find out you need to register here and there and everywhere with a credit card (which they would most likely either not have, or not use for online purposes)? In my experience this is too much effort to ask a noob for just for the purpose I have described.

But I am not fussed really. I was just giving a scenario that exists and thought i'd share it.

My remark "potentially illegal" wasn't an accusation. Just that it is much simpler to uninstall the software to avoid that possibility. Other freely downloadable Bible software has a free bible(s) but doesn't require a Sign-in - so there is clearly no obligation about installing it on someone else's device and leaving it.
