Logos 5 Crashes with Windows 8

Logos 5 crashes on start up with Windows 8. It worked the first few times I opened it, after install. I think it may have something to do with opening in restore size window, rather than maximum. Using Windows 8 Troubleshooting guide returns an "incompatible program" result. I upgraded to logos 5 because my previous version, logos 3, couldn't display passage guide data in its window - just a small frame at the top with scroll bars.

Any thoughts?

Hey Steve! Sorry you are having troubles. [:S]

There is a bug causing some users to have crashes, which is caused by viewing the blog on the homepage. Do you normally load to the homepage? Have you tried loading to a blank layout? Press and hold the control key immediately upon startup, and check the appropriate box. If that doesn't fix things for you, please enable logging and submit logs. You can find instructions in my signature line.

Steve, did that fix your crashing problem? It makes me nervous seeing threads reporting crashes where there's no follow-up from Logos and no resolution from the user who reported the issue. Another user just reported crashes in Logos 5 using Windows 8 as well, so I was just checking to see who else might have been experiencing the same problem.

I also have had crashing problems. I think it is related to windows 8.1, specifically their latest build (9431) I was working fine with a previous build, but when the latest build was installed, logos started crashing consistently.

Hi Dave,

I'm so excited since finding the answer to my problem that I want to share the solution I found. It's called COMPATIBILITY. After changing Logos to open in Windows 7 it seems to have resolved all my issues. This is just for what it's worth. I posted a screen shot here http://community.logos.com/forums/t/72508.aspx

I want to share the solution I found. It's called COMPATIBILITY. After changing Logos to open in Windows 7 it seems to have resolved all my issues.

As discussed in the linked thread, it's best to run Logos 5 with the "Run this program in compatibility mode" checkbox unchecked. Logos 5 is designed to work with the latest Windows 8 (and Windows 8.1 Preview) features, so there should be no need to force it into compatibility mode.

Sometimes Windows "detects a problem" and automatically sets the compatibility mode checkbox. We're not totally sure why this is, but it can often cause more problems than it solves.

You might want to try loading to a blank layout. If that doesn't work, please create a new thread and post logs. See my signature line.
