search function on floating panel

I was reading the Bible in a floating panel and all of a sudden wanted to search it. realized I can't (have I missed it? or am I right?). I had to redock and then search. Wondered how hard it would be to add that to the pull down menu or right click, or something. Not critical, but i think beneficial to be able to search from any floating window, no?

also, I just noticed that when you click on a search finding (specifically a bible ref), you go to that chapter, but not to the verse where the searched-for-text is found. eg, "eyes of the Lord" is found in Ps 33:18, but clicking on the search link takes you to 33:1

You're right that you can't open a search from a floating window. But you can do a "Find" from a floating window, or you can activate the L4 window (Alt-Tab, or click on the L4 window with your mouse) and search from there (leaving the floating window open).

Hi Richard, thanks for looking into this, and sorry, I have been "away" for a while. I actually did just go back to my L4 window and performed a search "eyes of the Lord" in the NIV. It gave me a list (60 or 80 some results) of passages that fit that. At the beginning of each passage is a blue hyperlink--either with a Passage (like "Psalm 33") or a title ("Naboth's Vineyard") etc. then following in gray is the translation and specific reference where the searched for text is found.

When the blue link is clicked on, it takes you to the beginning of the chapter (eg, when I clicked on Psalm 33 . . . it didn't take me to the exact passage back in my NIV.-------STOP THE PRESSES!!!!

I just realized that "basic search' was clicked, not "bible search." okay. I must have assumed it would be a "bible search" because i was IN a bible pane when I initiated the search.

Okay.

But, I still think it would save a step to initiate a search (a basic, basic, Logos function and feature) within a floating window.

Ah. Basic search provides a link to an article, not to an exact location. So clicking the link will show you the beginning of the article in which the search term is found.

When you do this kind of a search with a resource that has page numbers, it seems to link to the correct page (but not the correct spot). Since the search term is highilghted though, it's not to hard to find.

(BTW, I've been caught by that Basic vs Bible Search more than once myself. L3 would automatically choose "Bible search" for you, if you activated it with a Bible tab active.)

thank you Rich. And yeah, it makes me wonder if L4 could have some kind of intuitive "auto" selection of the type of search, ie, if searching in a Bible, default to "bible search" and not basic . . .
