Hide Search Results

After doing a search and selecting a result to view, all occurrences of the search term are highlighted. Is it possible to turn this off? I find it distracting - I could understand if the first instance of the search term were high lighted to show that it occurred, but to have each occurrence and each variation of the search term highlighted becomes a bit much.

I suppose it could be switched on and off -

I"m not sure how this could be done at this point.

However to restrict your search term to exclude variants from the search panel (click the magnifying glass on the search tab) deselect "Match all word forms." This will restrict your search to only the exact spelling of your search term (like the 'exact' qualifier did in L3). At least that will reduce the amount of the highlighting a bit.

Of course, you could just close the search window, and that would turn it off too. Or you could temporarily search for Istanbul (or any other term that doesn't occur in the Bible), which would have the same effect. Then when you're ready to resume search for your term again. *(It only takes a second or two to search, so this could be a work around for now.)

I don't know of any plans to change the behavior of search highlighting.

I'm sure it could be. Logos will see this, but it helps to label this kind of post as SUGG which means Suggestion. That way they and others realized what you're doing and will come and add or rebuff your suggestion.

I like the highlighting, but a switch would be fine. I might find it useful sometimes, but if others do, it would be helpful.

Turn off "links to open panels" by first clicking the visual filters button and voila.

Well, Thomas' idea did not work - the suggested checkbox is unchecked. Richard's suggestion did work. Clumsy - but a work around.

Thomas, this doesn't work if you search for a term in a Bible. I thought of this and tried it to.

Here's what I did: My Bible is open to Ephesians 6:10. I do a Bible search for "stand." That word is highlighted in my Bible. I deselect "Links to open panels. The word "stand" is still highlighted.

EDIT: I know the word 'stand' doesn't occur in Eph 6:10, but it does occur in vv 11, 13 (2X), 14 (NIV).

Richard's suggestion did work. Clumsy - but a work around.

I just accidentally discovered another clumsy work around. With the current Bible highlighted hit the right arrow key (moves to your next prioritized Bible) then left arrow key back to the Bible you were working on. Search highlighting disappears. To get it back. Highlight your search term in the search window and press enter (i.e., run the search again).

Might work for Bibles - but I am looking at a dictionary. The word I looked up was "angel", and the entry in my dictionary was loaded with the term or variants.

I just tried it with a Bible dictionary, Websters dictionary and thesaurus and the same method works every time.

Do you get different results?

Hmm. I can't determine if this is a bug or an unwanted feature.

Search results highlighting is independent of "Links to Open Panels" eg. highlighted results in the ESV will not be affected by that setting (mine is always OFF).
