WOWSERS!!!!!
Must have been a busy day for Logos!
I discovered a BUNCH of books show up on my iPhone (NOT that I check it daily, like my mail box).
At the top, I see "101 Christians everyone should know", followed by some others, I do not recall seeing, like "Being Holy, Being Human", "Beginning Biblical Hebrew".
Thirteen (13) volumes of Concordia Commentaries, "Great Doctrines of the Bible" (3 volumes), the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, Twelve (12) volumes of R.C.H Lenski Interpretation of the Bible and more!
This is going to take me some time, to read.
FUN!
It is almost as if someone found the "update resources" button had been switched off accidentally and then fixed it. I have never seen so many books show up just overnight.
Logos has made Danny a happy camper!

Forgot to mention, I ordered the Concordia and Lenski commentaries, so others of you will not have those, but I bet you got some more books today, too!

Yes, you are right! Many books show up now. I can see my messianic books and many others. Good job Logos.

Yep! I had to resort to reading my hard copy of Lerry Fogle's "Revelation Explained", then yesterday low and behold BAM! my reading plan with Revelation Explained shows up on my iPhone and Ipod Touch...along with a host of other books from my Scholar's library.
Thanks Logos!

OK. All this WoW talk has finally tipped the scales for the iPhone/iPod putchase.
I need a simple recommendation.
Which should I buy?
How much memory do I need?
Are there any providers other than AT&T? (I hate at&t)Sorry if this is off-topic.

Since you hate ATT, then the iPod Touch would be the perfect purchase for you. But you will only be connected to the internet via wifi at home and at hot spots.
They come in 8GB thru 64GB I think or maybe 32GB, as far as memory needed...not applicable. The newer iPod Touch(s) are faster then the orignals like I have. Faster hardware and I think more system memory along side the storage capacities I mentioned above.
Or you can wait until ATT's exclusive contract runs out with Apple (end of 2010 I think???) and hopefully the iPhone will be available on verizon and other 3G hardware compatible network providers.
Cheapest ebook reader you will ever buy, why because that is only one of many things that can be done with an iPhone/iPod Touch.

Well, I have my iPhone with T-Mobile but it is here in Europe. Sorry [:P]
Speaking about the size of memory, I would get as big as possible. If Logos really plans to go off line with the resources, what I hope for, we will need quite bog room for that. I use iPhone for music, video, iTunesU (lectures) etc. All of it demands a lot of GBs [:(]

- does the iPhone allow you to browse via Wifi, or is it only via the cell phone connection?
- has anyone experienced (read several amazon reports of this) their iTouch having a "condensation problem" that renders it inoperable and voids the warranty? Like taking it in andn out of extreme temps, or working out with it (sweat).
I'd love to get a 64 GB iTouch . . . or maybe the iPhone, especially if it browses via wi-fi to reduce the data package costs
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

If the Logos app is your only reason for getting it I would suggest you not waste your money. It really is not worth the $200-$400 you'll be spending on the phone/iPod. There is no highlighting or notes and you have to be connected to the net and there are still a lot of books not on the app (like, for instance, all the ones I happen to be currently reading).
Unless you have some other really good reasons to spend over 200 on the phone or iPod, wait.

My wife seems to think I spend too much time tethered to the computer. (Don't know where she gets that idea...[co] [:|])
Other uses I think I may have are: listening to mp3 sermons, audio Bible, organizer. I just hate sitting in waiting rooms without decent reading material.

Well, since value is relative, I can't say that spending 200+ on an item for those functions is too much. But I can say that one can get such functions with a cheaper non-iPhone item. About 4 years ago I bought something called an i-River for about $50 that is like a cheap iPod knock off. It does all those things (except organizer, but I'm not that impressed with the iPod/Phone's organizing abilities). 4 years later and it still works perfectly. On the other hand, I bought an iPod nano maybe a year and a half ago and it gives me all sorts of problems (those in the cult of mac may have a hard time believing this).
I would suggest you browse the iTunes App store to see exactly how much functionality you might get out of it.

You may label me a sadist, but I took great fun in speaking with an 80-year old retired minister about my iPhone.
First, I laid out the fact that I have the newer ESV Bible, in its entirety, on my iPhone.
Second, I told him that I had Luther's Small Catechism.
Third, well, I felt bad about saying there were over 30 complete volumes of commentaries, in their entireties, on my iPhone.
Fourth, I can make phone calls too.

The thing with the iphone/ipod touch is, using the Logos4 app, is just a very small part of what can be done with the device itself. Like what was said above, I listen to sermon podcast, music, sports scores, email on 4 different accounts, texting, read books magazines etc, calendar, alarms, gps and oh yeah I make phone calls on the iPhone.
To me as a Logos 4 Scholars library owner, the addition of the app. Adds that much more value to a device that I already depend upon for a host of other uses like converting measurements when cooking etc.
Yes you can browse via wifi using safari whenever the OS detects a wifi signal
Oh yeah you can buy an 8GB Iphone in the US for 99 bucks!

I just checked and currently they top out at 32GB, which is plenty for me, but as the price of ssd memory continues to drop. I wouldn't be suprised to see a 64GB version in the $399 slot. Sometime in the 1-2 quarter of 2010. Hopfully in the form of a 10x7 tablet running the iPhone 3.x OS

Bite your tongue Anthony! I want nothing less than a full OSX on my new tablet.

LOL! Being a PC guy, I didn't consider the OSX operating system...but then again the Iphone/Ipod devices are the closest I've been to owning a Mac in over 20 years.
Hopfully they will offer two skews Iphone 3.x and OSX

In the states currently, ATT is the only provider. however, the chairman of Verizon has gone on record publically as stating that Verizon will start carrying the Iphone. Unless you live and operate in a big city, as i do in Atlanta, I would consider waiting on the iphone until Verizon has it. The iphone does not do well in western states that I have traveled in and through. In terms of memory, the program itself on the iphone is small, as the books are online books, except perhaps for the 15 bookshelf books in the package. I have not noticed an increase in memory use. I have an iphone with 30 gb.

This is very good news.
For those who are on Verizon, you have an alternative to an iPhone. Get an iPod Touch and an the Verizon MIFI card. I have one and it is great.

So Kevin, how would I connect the MIFI card to the touch? I cant see how I could hook it up and then also how expensive is the card? thanks Kelly Todd

I'm not Kevin, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
The MiFi is a wireless hotspot/broadband card in a singe unit. Your touch would hook to it wirelessly. As for price, depends on the data plan, check Verizon's wireless website.
BTW, it works beautifully. I have had the MiFi since it first came out, and even though I have an iPhone, I sometimes still use it when the AT&T network isn't around.

Thanks for posting this...I had avoided opening my iphone app for a while because none of the books that were on there at the time were appealing to me. I found access to the FOTL and Anchor Commentaries as well as many others...Definitely makes this free app worth it.

thank you very much Terry! Now I have to figure out if 5 gig is enough for the month for the touch and a laptop? LOL
Kelly

Well, I have roughly 80-100 air cards issued to users right now, and I don't believe that any of them have approached the 5gig limit. BUT, they aren't using Logos 4. [:D]

thanks Terry, that is my issue... Logos 4, a few DOC files, some web pages, 400 email a day, and some photos that go to my site, or that I view on others sites... it all adds up!

Unless those are huge pictures, then I don't think it would come close to 5 GB.
I have downloaded Logos updates including a recent 1.8 GB and that along with an entire months worth of heavy heavy browsing did not add up to 3 GB of use that month. Unless you are downloading a lot of content regularly, you don't have to worry that much.

Thanks Kevin for the reply. well yes the images are rather large. I shoot a lot of photographic images and I teach photography and do a lot of it on line in addition to my pastoral duties... Many of the images that share and or view would be in the 1/2 meg area... I am trying to see how I might drop back to the 250 mg option and just not use it for photography... I also have a lot of time in the office where I have another internet source so this is not an exclusive option... is there a read out that you can see just how much one has used before the end of the month? Thanks for your help

$399 is more than I was thinking about spending. I could probably get everything I need on a 16GB with room to spare. I don't need the constant connectivity since I'm almost always in a wifi hotspot so the iTouch would serve my purposes.
Is there any talk of a 10x7 tablet actually being brought to market or are you just wishfully dreaming out loud?

Yes, my iPhone is on AT&T, and the MiFI is on Verizon. But it goes with the territory, I am in IT, and telecommunications is under my purview. But I am not as bad as some, I have execs who carry two wireless cards and two cell phone (each from different carriers) to make sure they have connectivity when they want it and can always be reached.

Me too. I was with Verizon and had a USB modem till they came out with the MIFI and I happened to be in my upgrade window then. After that I was getting tired of my WinMo phone and the 3gs came out so I cancelled my Vz WinMo account and jumped to AT&T but our family plan is still on Verizon and so I keep the MIFI going. Hopefully, by the time my contract is up AT&T will have 3G in my area and I can go with something similar or tethering by then.
