How good is the Beta?

I'm toying with the idea of loading up the Beta, but was curious how good it is so far. Can you use it for serious work? I don't mind the occasional errant bug and am happy to find them, but as I am already testing the Mac Alpha version, I need at least one version that is fully functional. Please give advise oh wise Logos 4 Beta testers ones!

I've had several crashes with Beta 4, but none that have lost work or stopped me working. However, one or two users have experienced problems that have left them unable to use certain tools, such as the Cited by tool.

There are also still problems merging indexes, which can mean incorrect search results. However, this is easily worked around by simply not merging any indexes!

I'm doing all my serious work exclusively on the beta, but I've got enough confidence to 'hack' the installation to fix an errant setting. And I can always remote desktop from my study to my office PC if it breaks on a Sunday morning! I haven't yet needed to do either, however.

Some people have had problems with installing the beta. Others have had problems once it has installed. Some have had problems in both instances.

However, I haven't had any problems or crashes. When I installed Beta 2 on one of my machines that didn't originally have Logos the only problem that I had was that some of my note files were unnamed ("untitled"). But when I installed Beta 3 on a machine that had SR-7 and overwrote the old version I didn't have this problem.

Maybe it's because we use the program differently. I decided it was worth the risk for the extra highlights and other features that might be only a minor thing for the way some people use the program but is a major thing for the way I use the program.

(I've been using Beta 4 a lot since it came out (for the things I usually use it for) and the only thing that I've noticed is that it takes a really long time to open a note file when creating one from the right-click context menu in a resource.)

B1 was not conducive to installing on my machine, B2 installed just fine. Since then I've been using it with a minimum amount of flakiness.

I experienced the merge index bug and searches were jumping in way off the path, but after a full reindex (6.x HRS) all appears for the moment to be well.

I've found B4 to be solid. I have not overwritten SR-7 only because I want to have the ability to try things in SR-7 when trying to help people using SR-7. I'm using B4 for my real work as it has features (e.g., Analysis) I want to use.

I loaded it up. It's been fine and I'm happy to help route out some bugs. I just needed to make sure that it ran for the most part. The Mac Alpha version, which is my primary focus to test, is still very much in its infancy... so I needed the Windows version to play nice.
