Beta 4 Bug: Bible search for Fool

Thus bug may exist in previous versions, I don't have another copy available to test.

Ran a Bible search on the word Fool limited to the gospels. Only had one result:

Expanded the search to include the whole NT and did not get much better results. Ran a Basic search on the ESV for Fool and the results looked better.

Is this a problem with my index or something with the search function? I'll reindex my library and see if it does better.

I get four. You didn't by chance merge your indexes in the beta did you?

    Chris,

I get 2 "fool" and 2 "fools" in the Gospels. I'd run the "rebuild index" command as John is inferring by his question about merging your index during the Beta 2 or 3.

The other difference may be that you have "Find all Word Forms" unchecked in the Panel menu (top left hand corner of the panel).

I get 4 results (for fool and fools). The one you have isn't even one of them. Just previous to the sectino on Luke12:13 is the heading "The Parable of the Rich Fool."

The four instances are Matt 5:22 (fool); Matt 23:17 (fools); Luke 11:40 (fools); Luke 12:20 (fool).

Search errors are almost always indexing issues. Rebuilding the index should fix it.

Problem resolved. Rebuild index did the trick.

Was I hitting the indexing problem that cropped up in beta 2 or was something else at work? What circumstances might cause a user to have a corrupted index?

You have to hold your mouth right when you hit the indexing icon. [;)]

It could really be a number of things that mess up indexing. Any activity on the computer at the time indexing is going on has a potential to mess up an index. Program and OS design should prevent this from happening, but apparently it doesn't always do that.

Remember that these are huge indexes tracking multiple data types. If any one of those resources has a bad byte in the wrong place, or at any time during indexing a computer 'hiccup' puts a bad byte somewhere, it will mess things up.

You were hitting the index merging problem; one of its side-effects was corrupting the "field" information. Searching for text in the "words-of-christ" field might actually find text in the "footnote" field; searching for text in the "bible" field might actually find text in the "heading" field (this was your problem).
