Return to former layout after a crash

It would be nice if Logos would return to the layout it had before a crash like Firefox does. I know we have the layout history but it never seems to have anything close to the time it crashed. At the very least it would be nice if it opened the books again so I don't have to remember what all I was reading before hand.

This feature is available IF you turn your settings to open Logos to the "last used layout - local."

No, it's not. It opens to where you were when you last opened or saved, not to where you were when it crashed.

Maybe "Most recent layout - any" would work, because it takes the synced state rather than the local state (which would have only been saved the last time you opened or saved). Presuming there's nothing preventing Logos from syncing frequently before you crashed, that is.
I haven't tested it, but it should be relatively easy to test. Just force Logos to crash by terminating its process in the Task Manager (Windows). I'm not sure what the Mac equivalent would be, if it's possible on Mac.

Interesting thought. Since I only have one computer, and nothing could get messed up by changing, I figured I'd try. Turns out they already gave me "any" as default when they introduced the feature. So, no, it doesn't work. I've had enough crashes to know.
Perhaps they only use the last synced layout if it comes from another computer?

Oh well, it was worth trying.
So then, I'll endorse this suggestion heartily:

[Y][Y]This should be possible through the data that is getting synced all the time; it should act like an auto-save of the state of your layout.Actually, come to think of it, I seem to recall some discussion about possible plans to sync the "snapshots" on the Layout menu, so that all you'd need to do to get back to what you were doing before a crash would be to restart Logos and click on the most recent snapshot beneath the "Now" snapshot. Currently, it seems to only save snapshots whenever you close Logos. It used to save them every time you changed the layout by opening or closing a resource or tool, or repositioning or resizing panes. I hadn't noticed that they'd removed that functionality, probably when they switched over to the new "active layout" model as of 5.0b.0 -

Not that I have ever seen. May be different on Windows, of course.
Given how frequently Logos crashes, or requires a force quit, it would indeed be nice to get back to where you were.

I'm not sure what you mean… Here is the OP

Using the method I described, my experience has been:
- It does return to the layout it had before a crash
- It does open the books being used before hand
Perhaps if the crash is caused by opening a resource (or a corrupted layout of course) … but I don't ever have to "save" my layout for it to open to the same spot again.

When I answered you I assumed I too had the "local" setting, but as you can see from my reply to Rosie is turns out I had "any". I'll change and see if it makes a difference the next time I crash.

OK. Hopefully so. [:)]

Thanks for the suggestion Alabama - I'll try that as well although I'd prefer there was a separate option for crashes.

What do you do now? Load the the homepage?

I ran with Internet disabled usually so I just load a blank layout because the Home page is rather minimal without the Net (although this is actually a good thing because it loads pretty fast). I guess I'll just close everything when I start it up myself; perhaps it would be better to close everything before I close Logos and then it would load fast. That's what I'll do

You can now choose to load to a blank layout… which would be quicker than manually closing everything.
