I have no idea. Did the app crash? Is it acting funny? If so, please enable and post logs. You can learn more by following the appropriate link in my signature line below.

It appears that this may have something to do with the .Net Framework. I found the following thread about it. You might want to wait for a techie to show up and advise. (Posting logs still might be good).

I re installed 4 and it works just fine, sheeeesh you'd think after a couple all this time that 5 would be working, looks like it is still just beta.

L5 is working fine… If you would have posted the logs, we might have figured out what was going on. [;)]

It didn't create a log file, as it would not launch. The only log files are old L4 logs.

5 is re installed, and here is what is in the /Libraries/Documents/Logos Log Files
Logos4Error.log 05/11/2012 5:20pm
There is nothing for L5 and it still gives the fatal error message.

Wonder if logging is enabled for Logos 5 ? Logos support has => http://www.logos.com/support/logos5/windows/logging
Curious about operating system ? Also wonder about repairing Logos 5 Prerequisites ?
After installing Logos 5.1 Beta 8 today, had four files in Logos Log Files:
- DigitalLibraryInstall.log
- Logos.log
- LogosIndexer.log
- logossetup.log
Keep Smiling [:)]

Does the app crash, or do you click and click and click, but NOTHING happens? If it crashes, it should create a log, but only if you enable logging.

Here's the log file.

The L5 splash screen starts, and the Error window stops it in its tracks.

Logging is enabled.

Windows 7 64bit and I would not know about pre requisites..

The log file is quite old; last modified on 5 Nov 2012 when 4.6a SR-2 was being used.
Gord Berta said:Windows 7 64bit and I would not know about pre requisites..
Windows 7 (64 bit) Control Panel has Programs & Features:
Right click on Logos 5 Prerequisites has pop-up menu with Repair option.
Noticed hidden folder C:\Users\####\AppData\Local\Logos5\Install\Installers has LogosPrequisities.msi (folder AppData for user #### is hidden)
Keep Smiling [:)]

It is more important to get the logos.log file… but the log you gave is old anyways: 2012-11-05; Program Version: 4.6a SR-2
Gord Berta said:Logging is enabled.
I don't mean to press the point too much, but did you just enable it for me, or have you assumed it was enabled to begin with? If you are sure that it was enabled, when did you install L5? Did you ever have L5 up and running with logging enabled? What method did you use to enable logging?
Gord Berta said:The L5 splash screen starts, and the Error window stops it in its tracks.
To clarify: What do you mean by "splash screen"? The home page or the sign in page? If you mean the home page, new logs should have been produced if logging was enabled… if you mean the sign in page, it is possible that logs would not have been created.

I am a Mac guy… I <think> KS4J meant "repair permissions"… to be honest, I barely know what that means myself. [:S] KS4J is very knowledgeable and hopefully can clarify that for us.
EDIT: I see KS4J already responded. [:)]

OK, it did do a setup log at least after another install try.
When I try to repair the Prerequisite thing it tells me that the network resource is not available.
I am almost ready to win: format c:/ and to a complete clean install.

This has probably got to the stage where you should go back to Logos4 as that seems to be working and call/email Logos Tech Support as they can get onto your computer for further diagnosis.

After a thorough cleaning of everything Logos from the HD and Registry, and the same with Net frame, I did a windows update to re install net frame.
Reboot then Logos5 one more time, still getting the error message, so now it's back to 4.
I am running this all on a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is about a year old, and I have only installed the regular W7 updates as suggested. The only other software installed are:
Microsoft Office, BibleWorks 9, WordSearch 10, and SwordSearcher 7 and now L4 again.
Sorry, but common sense says I have to conclude L5 is really not ready for prime time, and one only has to read all the stories of verification in these forums from the many many users having problems.

You might be right if everyone was having the same problem as you… but they are not. L5 is really just a different version of L4… it is a continuation of the same app. I'm sorry you are having troubles, and hope Logos will be able to help you out, but to say that L5 "is really not ready for prime time" just isn't fair or accurate. Furthermore, people generally come to the forums when they are having troubles… so you WILL see a higher frequency of "HELP!" posts. [;)]

The CLR Error 80004005 "is generally caused by having more than one .NET framework installed on the system at one time. While two or more .NET frameworks can work simultaneously on a system, some have compatibility issues. To resolve a CLR error, the multiple frameworks must be uninstalled and reinstalled correctly." [per http://www.ehow.com/how_5844327_fix-clr-error-computer.html]
Windows 7 comes with .NET 3.5.1 which is required for Logos 4. Then you have to install .NET 4.5 for Logos 5, which is what I have done, as well as many other users, but this is the first time this CLR error has been reported (from searching the forums).
When I look in Control Panel | Programs and Features the only .NET I see is 4.5 (.NET 3.5 appears in Windows Features). Do you see any other .NET? It may not be that simple of course, hence my advice to consult Tech Support.

When I look in my Control Panel / Programs and Features, the only .Net I see is 4.5, I have turned off the .NET 3.5 Feature, and there are no other .NET installed. I still get the error msg.
There must be some other thing triggering the 3.5 and I don't see where to un install it completely.

You might try Aaron Stebner's .NET cleanup tool as referenced here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2012/08/04/10336934.aspx

The point is that you should not have to as .NET 3.5 can coexist with .NET 4.5.

I agree Dave. So it seems that I have the only W7 operating system on a relatively new laptop that just, does not like Logos5.
I guess the only thing left is to determine if this is Devine, or of the enemy? [^o)]
L5 is working on my 5 year old Mac Mini, so is this a sign? mmmmm..

I think L5 is jealous of the other Bible software programs. [:D]

No I have not specifically called support. I thought the 'techies' hung out hear looking for things to fix and stay abreast of what's right and wrong.
I am not home during the day to help them with allowing them to log on to this box to fix if they need to. They have no fix reported that I could find for this problem.
After 15 years of Linux beta testing and tweaking, I have learned anything that needs this much attention, is not worth the effort as the next update will in all likely hood break it. The main reason I don't use Linux any more as well.
I am really thankful I did not get all excited and 'buy' into the upgrade plans that cost hundreds. I appreciate all the assistance and ideas of all who attempted to get me going.

Hi Gord,
I have my suspcions as to what the problem is, but need information from the Event Viewer (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/open-event-viewer)
Can you open the Event Viewer, and from the left click "Windows Logs", and then "Application."
It may take a while for the center column to populate. Once it does navigate to the time from which you got the error regarding CLR. If you see any Error messages, and/or messages with an exclamation point above the error messages paste the information from them into a text file and attach them to the thread.

Here are the 'error' and 'warning' text messages in the Application Logs. I hope this is what you need/5282.log.txt
Thanks

That wasn't quite what I was looking for. I'm fairly certain that Dave is correct, there is likely something wrong with your .NET installation. I'm going to email you a case number so you can call us so that we can verify this, and hopefully at least set you on the right path.

Well long story short, clean install of the OS, Logos5 is now installing my library.
Thank you everyone for the attempt to fix my broken OS, Toshiba 0 - Logos 1
My apologies for the statements made by me about Logos out of my ignorance of W7 OS, and thank you Tommy for helping me get to the truth and the fix.
Mark this one fixed and NO ISSUE.
