Logos 5 continually requesting install a new version on startup

Virtually every time I start Logos 5 now, it says "An Upgrade Is Required" -- some of your documents and resources are not compatible with this version etc. I've "repaired" the installation and it does no good. I've downloaded and installed the "new version" (which is the same version) and then it had to index everything after downloading ALL my resources again..... only to then say "An Upgrade is Required" the next time I start up the computer and click on Logos 5 from the Program File folder.....

Welcome to the forums, David! Sorry you are having troubles. [:S]
What version of Logos are you running? What OS? Did you do a fresh install of L5, or did you update your installation on this computer from L4?
There is a possibility that we will need to see logs. You can learn more about that by following the links in my signature line.

Already had Logos 4 on this computer. I've downloaded Logos 5 as requested twice and installed with the same effect.

Hi David,
We will need to see logs to troubleshoot this. Turn on logging permanently by following the instructions under "How to ask for help", below. Then load Logos, make sure you get the error message, then quit and upload the logs.
There are three possible scenarios:
- Something's gone wrong in the installation, and you've been left with remnants of L4 on your computer (this is very unlikely, though).
- At some point you've had a beta version of L5 installed on your computer..
- You're trying to install an old version of Logos over a new version.
The logs should help us determine the cause.

I have used the "hold down cltr button to log in" and then get the error message and it goes no further. The Logos 5 version I have installed is your latest from your website. I can deinstall the current 5 and then download and reinstall. I don't know what else to do. When I click on the "java" solution, all I get is a webpage with all the coding. I cannot get to the logs you talk about since neither of the solutions listed under "how to ask for help" work.

Found two installations of Logos 5. One under User, Appdata, Local -- which I did not know was there. The other was under programfiles. I've deleted the program files one. The Appdata, Local installation runs. What??

EDIT: Just saw David's last response!
You first need to save the Resources folder (see wiki article that follows), then uninstall Logos from Control Panel | Programs and Features and remove the Logos4 (or Logos5) folder in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\.
Then install using wiki Method 3.

This is where Logos installs by default. That's so that different users can share the same computer and have their own versions of Logos running.

This must have been installed by a custom installation.
Having two copies of Logos installed in the same user account is obviously not supported. The two versions must have been different. Your Windows registry told Logos that the data files were in Appdata, but you were unknowingly running an old version of the program from ProgramFiles, hence the error.
Anyway, I'm glad it's sorted now.
(By the way, the people that help on this forum - including us - are not Logos staff, but users like you. Staff occasionally visit, and they can be identified by a blue Logos logo under their profile pics.)

Logos is designed to install for each user, and it avoids Program Files which usually allows an installation for all users. You must somehow have forced the install to Program Files as the default location is \Appdata\Local\
