I looked at this myself, and would like to offer the following diagnosis.

Here's the bug:

The "tag" field isn't supported on image searching (and probably shouldn't be). Instead, the contents of the tag field have been made into pseudo-fields, and that's causing lots of the problems. At the moment it's being supported in the summary (x results in y articles), but not the actual search itself.
For consistency, items that you can select in the dropdown "All Images" menu should be treated as fields (so we should be able to search for charts:prophets, just as we can search for words-of-christ:love. We shouldn't be searching for tag:charts ANDEQUALS prophets in an image search.

I don't think there are any other discrepancies in the screenshot. If you use the dropdown menu, then it currently works pretty much as it should.
