Christian Music

I can't find anything on Logos or Vyrso about christian music history.
I'd like some resources on christian music: about the artists, the development and history of music. Possibly something on it's affect on the church and the world over time. Here are a few titles I found in a quick search on Amazon. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can recommend some other titles.
Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music by Mark Allan Powell
The Billboard Guide to Contemporary Christian Music by Barry Alfonso
Raised By Wolves: The Story of Christian Rock & Roll by John J. Thompson
Apostles of Rock: The Splintered World of Contemporary Christian Music by Jay R. Howard, John M. Streck
At the Crossroads: Inside the Past, Present, and Future of Contemporary Christian Music by Charlie Peacock, Molly Nicholas

Not my subject, but the Hymnology Collection (4 vols.) comes to mind.

Fascinating suggestion. I don't have any idea about the titles you listed. Hopefully someone with expertise in this area can make some really good recommendations.

Hmm. Been gone for a while, but surprised no one has mentioned this, which is in Logos:
https://www.logos.com/product/5774/the-complete-library-of-christian-worship
It includes more than worship music history, but it does have sections on the history of worship music, including an entire volume (2) devoted to it. Volume 4 also includes a history of music in worship, including the history of instruments in worship. Granted, this focuses on worship music, rather than Christian music more broadly, but it is very helpful and very interesting (IMHO).

Thanks. Glad I could help. It comes from spending so much time hanging around the Regent College Bookstore, which has one of the best collections of theological books in North America. [:)]

Thanks, Richard. I had seen this and initially dismissed it as being too narrowly focused. It now sounds much more interesting that I originally thought. I've added it my list (for after vacation, when I have a little more money). Thanks.

Oh yes, this is an excellent resource! I refer to it often.
