Why my mobile favorites button on iPad keeps failing

The my favorites button on my iPad has been failing to work several times in the past two weeks.  It will be working fine and the next time I open Logos, when I tap the button, nothing happens.  The same thing is happening to me with Vyrso.  When I delete the app and reinstall, the button will work fine for a couple of days, then stop working again.  This is getting frustrating.

Sorry for your troubles William. [:s]

By "favorites button," do you mean the star icon? The favorites button in the sidebar menu? The favorites button on the homepage? Also, do you mean the button itself, or links within the folder?

What iPad do you have? What version of iOS? What version of the app are you running?

Have you tried killing the app via the multitask bar? How many apps do you normally have "running" in the multitask bar?

It is the star icon that does not work.  I don't seem to have a favorites button on the homepage.  Nothing happens when I tap the star.

I have an iPad 2.  iOS version 6.1.3  I am running app version 3.3.0 (3.3.0.2095)   I have tried killing the app in the multitask bar to no avail.  It doesn't seem to matter how many apps are running at any one time.  I can kill everything and start the app and it does not make a difference.  The only thing that has helped is deleting the app and then reloading it.  When I do that it will operate normally for 2 or 3 times of opening and then when opened it will not function.  All of the other buttons work.  Thanks for your efforts in helping me solve this problem.

I don't seem to have a favorites button on the homepage.

There are three ways to access favorites. The first is the star icon. The other two options are part of the sidebar & homepage menu options, which use side scrolling. I will post a couple screen shots later.

Have you tried to do a full shutdown of the device?

To be honest, I am a little bit at a loss. I help to beta test the mobile iOS app, and have not come across this issue, nor have heard of it that I can remember… Try using the other two ways to get to the favorites. If those don't work (or even if they do), it may be helpful to provide logs to the developers. Once you can reproduce the problem, go to the home page, select the account settings button (gear wheel icon). Then select "help" and "send support info." This will launch the ability to email your logs. The best thing to do would be to change the "to" email address to yourself. This will allow you to save the logs and attach them to a post in this thread using the paperclip icon in the formatting pallet.

Here is the screen shot. The home page and side bar have the same menu structure, they just look a little different. Notice the bottom of the side bar menu has a number of dots. That is your clue to navigate using a two finger swipe. The favorites are in the last set of menus.

I said "two finger swipe," but it is just one.

I have been having the exact same problem ever since I updated to the latest version of this app. The star icon retrieved my favorites perfectly before that. Now, it won't respond at all. I can add favorites to my list and see them in Logos on my Mac, but my iPad3  cannot bring them up. I am using the same IOS and app versions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums Tom! Sorry you are having troubles. [:s]

Have you tried all of the things I suggested above (I.e. killing the app, doing a full reinstall, etc)? Can you access the favorites through the other two menus I described above?

Tom, I have gone to the left main menu and found that the favorites work well from there.  I began using that way of accessing them over the weekend and WALLA, I tried the star button and it began working again.  I think there are spooks in the app.  Vicar Bill

    Glad it is "working" [:)]

Please let us know if the issue persists. It may end up that Logos would need some logs from you.

Yes, it's working now. I killed the app and reinstalled it, then the Favorites icon began working again.

One more question: your screen shot shows the Favorites list under the Tools bar. My Home screen doesn't show this. How can I configure it to do this? When it comes up, all I see are the books I am using, which isn't very helpful. I'm reading in OT, NT, Gospels, and Psalms simultaneously and marking where I stop each day. Favorites allows me to go right to where I left off, which is why this has been such a problem.

The sidebar menu and the homepage are virtually identical in how they work... They just have a different shape & color scheme. As I explained in the post above, the menus scroll sideways... Simply use a finger swipe. Notice the dots at the bottom to help you navigate between menus. SOn my way! Menus, like "tools," have submenus such as "favorites," and "history." The "left" and "right" arrows are your indication that either there is a submenu, or that you are already in one. It sounds like you might be in the "history" submenu of "tools." If so, click the "tools" button (showing a left pointing arrow) to get back to the main menu. Then click on "favorites."

Are you using a reading plan? I have a McCheney reading plan. When in "reading plan" mode, there is a "mark read" button at the end of each days reading. When you click that button, the next reading appears. This works very well with plans Logos has pre-set, but doesn't work well for user created plans if you want fine control.

For clarification: by "killing" the app, I mean killing the app via the multi-task bar. Deleting the app is a separate fix. If the problem is a corrupted installation, deleting the app is necessary. Sometimes, however, simply restarting the app fixes things. This can only be done by closing the app via the multi-task bar. Using the term "close the app" isn't sufficient to explain the process, so "killing" the app is used as shorthand.

I did contact Logos tech support about this problem. When we changed the position on the ipad  from landscape to the vertical position, the favorites button worked. This problem is being reported to the developers.

Was anyone else using landscape mode? I never use my iPad that way, so it isn't something that would pop up for me!

Thanks for the good work, Alabama24! This problem appeared for me about 3 weeks ago, along with another church member that same week.

Thanks for this tip about switching out of landscape mode. Although the Favorites icon worked briefly after I reinstalled the app, this didn't last long. After it stopped working, I saw this entry and discovered that this is the problem I'm having. The icon will only work if you are in portrait mode. It's obviously a bug that I hope Logos will fix, but at least I can get to my favorites using the icon.

I can confirm the same problem. It's been bugging me for a week or two, but simply shifting from landscape (which is my usual orientation) to portrait brings an instant cure. And then the problem resurfaces the moment I return to landscape.

I'm glad the issue is reported and being worked on!
