Since this suggestion has picked up a few thumbs up, I will point out that Maccoby wrote his book on this theme even earlier.
Just to be clear, I don't support this idea...I personally think it is ridiculous. But it is an idea that is (not so) slowly picking up legs. If I've gone to the trouble to fix myself a lunch, I don't like the idea of someone else coming along and eating it. But unless one arms himself with understanding, idea bullies and slicksters can "eat your lunch" while you stand there scratching your head. Maccoby is quite influential in his rhetoric, and even though some people are aware that he relies heavily on his imaginative ability to "fill in gaps", they are often won over by the force of his ideas.
Maccoby WILL become a bigger name in the next few years, even if he doesn't ever constitute a movement per se. Definitely someone worth learning more about.
