The existing Logos 2.3.12 stable version of the apps will be supported for a while longer on Android 2.2, but  new features will only be added to the 2.4.x or above versions of the Logos Reader Suite.

The number of combined Android 2.2 users across our entire suite of apps has decreased significantly and the development cost related to continued support for Android 2.2 - API 8 grows each time newer Android versions are released.

Question How much does it cost to up date to Android 2.4 from 2.2? [I am not an Android user]  Can the oldest Androids run the newest operating system?

Android updates don't cost anything, but the question is whether or not your Android vendor will add support for newer versions.

Can the oldest Androids run the newest operating system?

No.  There are many mobile devices out there that will never be upgradeable to newer versions of Android, and the same thing has happened with Apple mobile devices.

It won't, since Kindle Fire devices run Android 2.3 and above.

I forgot to ask how old is Android 2.2?   People normally change phones about every few years.

    Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history .

People normally change phones about every few years.

I know nothing about how often other people normally change phones, but my experience has been a new smart phone every 2 years (because of cellular contracts).

I'm not quite sure whether or not you want to use Logos on Android, but if you wish to see some current performance benchmarks on mobile devices, this is a good link: http://www.androidbenchmark.net/passmark_chart.html

As of today, the worst performing phone in the above list is available for $170.99, and the best performing phone is available for $649.99 - online from the same (unnamed) website, and both phones are unlocked.

In short, the second phone is ~50 times faster than the second, yet less than 4 times the price.  Food for thought.

Dave's summary of this thread:  [As I read this subject]

The two year old Android 2.2 is NOT going to have the NEW features BUT what you have will remain active.

And it is most likely that it is time to update your phone and then get all the new features.

[[Last question for Keven: Will the loader check for the level of the OS before trying to run the update?]]

    Thanks for the warnings

Yes, that's a correct assessment. And yes, if I understand your update question correctly, an app that only works on Android OS 2.3+ can't be "accidentally" installed on a device running Android OS 2.2.
