iPad vs. iPad mini vs. Kindle Fire

I posted in Accordance forums, too, but curious to hear thoughts here, since I also have some resources in Logos. Input welcomed:

My family is for the first time considering adding a tablet to our devices (i.e., one device=late 2008 MacBook). Finances are a consideration, of course. But I have a chance to get a Kindle Fire and possibly think about how our budget might stretch upwards a bit for an iPad mini or iPad.

Here's how I would use a tablet:

*As an e-reader--for pdfs. I use my Kindle Touch quite a bit, which makes the Kindle Fire appealing... both for Kindle books and also .pdfs of articles
*Email (I'm on Gmail, mostly)
*Blogging through Wordpress.com
*Music (I am on Spotify many hours a day)
*Occasional other media (movies, Netflix, TV), but not tons of it
*Taking notes
*Sermon prep
*Bible software for Greek and Hebrew reading

I know Accordance is only in iOS, and I use it quite a bit (on a laptop). I've also heard good things about the Logos apps for tablets--I probably have more resources that I use regularly in Accordance, but some that I would make use of in Logos.

Do folks have recommendations on pros and cons of each device? I know the iOS devices will give me both Logos and Accordance, but there's extra cost there...

For what you described, I would not consider another device than the iPad. Have you looked in the Apple store for "refurbished" iPads? They come factory sealed and standard warranty. Also, consider buying right after new models are announced.

I use iPad for all of those things (except spotify and wordpress). I understand that the new IOS 7 will have an "iRadio" program this Fall, but Spotify and Pandora both have iPad apps available now. Wordpress also has apps.

.pdf reader - I use PDF Expert (I like it the best)

Gmail (and most all of Google's Apps) works on iPad

iPad was made for movie watching

There is a Sermon Note Taker and Sermon Note Designer for iPad that work pretty will (as well as many apps with sermon illustrations, tracts, databases, trivia games, memory verse apps, visitation tracking, etc.)

LOGOS is great for reading Greek and Hebrew. It works well on iPad (though Logos' full power in only realized on a PC, for now)

IMHO iPad mini is not worth the tradeoff. Full size is bulkier to hold and carry, but I like the larger screen.

I too prefer the iPad... Satisfied user of the iPad 3 here.

Kindle has an app for the ipad you can install... Any book you've bought, or anything kindles can open can be put on your device and read.

Its like a kindle, on steroids.

I would recommend the iPad, I was recently gifted the most recent iPad and love it. The current version has a storage capacity of 128GB which I think is a huge plus.

Everything you want to do can be done on the iPad. Also the newest AppleCare plus includes protection for water or screen damage (only a $50 deductiable to replace it up to 2 times). Its also much easier to get it fixed if you have an Apple Store nearby.

I too am a fan of the iPad. I specifically like the large screen and on-screen keyboard.  In my opinion, the Fire's keyboard is is too small to type notes.
