BUGS 5.1 RC1: Multiple auto-linking issues

I've been trying to finally get some auto-links into my old notes.

First I have to insert spaces after each reference. That's a nuisance, but at least it is a one time nuisance, and I was forewarned about it. And it's certainly much easier that doing it manually.

However, while the current bug in the forum editor that requires me to add a space to get a working link allows me to remove the space again immediately, the note editor does not allow me to do so. I hit spacebar: the link appears. I hit backspace: the link disappears again. And the extra space remains. So I have to hit backspace a second time. Back to where I was.

IOW, unless I want double spaces between existing words, I have to hit spacebar, right-arrow, and then backspace, so that I remove the 'old' space rather than the 'new' one.

Interesting oddity: if I add a comma plus a space, I can remove both and keep the link, provided I first delete the comma, and only then the space. Same with a full stop or parenthesis.

Next issue: the note editor isn't very intelligent. With "Jmf Deut 18:15 och 18:18-19" I can only get the first to link. I first thought it had to do with the Swedish, but replacing 'och' with 'and' made no difference. Same with something like "Jmf not till 3:15", which refers back to the same book the note was attached to. Isn't the note editor supposed to 'look backwards' to find the book name, the same way your own compiler, and I believe the PB tool, does?

Furthermore, I copied a list of Swedish Bible book abbreviations followed by '1:1' from a .docx file into a note and added spaces after each one. At first I thought none of them linked (a bit more than half should), then I realized that I did get popups, so the links are there, but the blue colour isn't.

Any chance you can add a few more Swedish Bible book abbreviations to the English UI? I don't mind using 'Gen' instead of the more common '1 Mos' (in fact I prefer it), and I can link the Prayer of Manasse manually, should I ever need to, but getting the most important ones, the ones very close to existing ones, and the ones that would help with half a dozen other languages as well would really help.

Could you update Bible Book Abbreviations to correspond with reality? E g 'Joh' and 'Est' do work, although they're not on the list, while 'Jud' doesn't work, although it is on the list. (In the latter case I would, of course, prefer that you update the note editor and the PB tool, rather than the list, as that's an official Swedish abbreviation.)

(I hope I remembered everything. I managed to lose the whole text when I proofread and just wanted to move a couple of words from one place to another.[:'(][:'(])

Hitting backspace after an automatic reference detection will trigger an undo. This is as designed. As you might imagine, it's intended for users who are typing notes rather than going back and inserting spaces to trigger detection. In that majority case, I think you'll find it more suitable.

Performing any action after the reference detection (e.g. moving the caret, change formatting, etc.) will allow you to hit backspace without undoing the automatic reference detection. Alternatively, you can also use the Delete key to perform a forward deletion as this will not trigger the undo.

Not exactly. They are similar but our compiler's reference detection is much more aggressive than in notes. This is to avoid a lot of false positives that would occur as a user types non-reference content. For example, "Am I" might be Amos 1, but I doubt users would appreciate that assumption when typing. There are a variety of these examples so we do our best to find a happy medium in how aggressive the detector is.

In the case of a separating "and", I believe you can use "Deut 18:15, 18:18-19". The "and" or "och" causes the detector to look for, and fail to find, a book with that abbreviation.

I believe you can use "Deut 18:15, 18:18-19".

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. "Compare [the note reference with] x and y" can be abbreviated to "Cf x, y", but "Compare x with y" can't be abbreciated the same way. Nor can sentences like "Notice the use of <word> in x, and <other word> in y. Or simple references back to the book the note was attached to. I tend to write a lot of constructions like that. And repeating the book name all the time makes sentences a bit clumsy.

I was about to say that, together with my Swedish abbreviations, this seems to mean that half of my Bible links will still have to be made manually, which I found somewhat disappointing. However, I just found that it is, in fact, possible to type in a full reference, and then go back and delete the book name, without losing the link. I can even replace an English abbreviation with a Swedish one.[Y] Clumsy and time consuming, but faster than linking manually, and much better than I thought initially.

I was thinking of suggesting Cmd-spacebar for automated linking, which would make it possible, both to use a more aggressive reference detection, and to add automatic linking of other often referenced texts (Talmud, CCC...), without creating a lot of "Am I" situations -- but then I realized Cmd-spacebar gives me a Greek keyboard. And if there's anywhere I need a Greek keyboard, it's in Logos. Perhaps there's some other spacebar combination that is free and could be used?
