ETA on Logos 4.0a?

I've been watching the Beta forums for L4 and have been patiently and excitedly waiting for the next update to L4 (looks like it is going to be a great one)

It seems that it is about ready to become public, anyone have an idea of when the rest of us can get our "hands" on it?

Best you can do Jeremiah is wait. It will not go "gold" until it passes from beta to RC (release candidate).

When you see it hit RC 2 or 3 you know the day is close.

The beta's not secret. Anyone can download and install it as long as you don't mind taking the risk it may crash!

It's close, but we're being careful. 4.0a has index merging, among other improvements. That's something cool, but which messes with your index files. And we very much do not want to release a 4.0a that causes everyone to have index problems... I don't know that you'd let us live! So we're taking the time to test it as thoroughly as possible.

Aha! I have it from a Logos employee that it's going to be in 1-2 weeks. George Allakhverdyan posted this on another thread today: "A fix for this issue will be included in 4.0a, which will be released in about 1-2 weeks."

Logos employees should work through Christmas and New-Years so we can get it in 1 instead of 2....[:|]

RC is just a "release candidate" -- doesn't mean it has gone gold yet. I don't know what their criteria are for deciding when to ship a release candidate. Maybe if nobody finds any serious recall-level bugs in the first 48 hours or something? I remember they went through at least RC5 before going gold for 4.0.

Rosie, the latest download doesn't have a designation of RC, that lead to early speculation that they had skipped the release candidate stage. Now that we have the notes, we know that isn't the case.

I see. Maybe they're doing it this way this time so that they can declare the latest RC as the "gold" version after the fact if they decide it's a keeper, without having to push out a new release of the software just to fix the designation in the About box. The whole point of a "release candidate" is that it could be the golden release.

I downloaded the Beta 5 today, and auto downloaded the RC1.

I have had no issues/bugs yet and it all seems stable to me.

Will RC1 autodownload if we haven't been using the beta of 4.0a yet? Do we just type "update now" into the command bar to get it?
