When I look up a word for origin and use it comes up in Greek & Hebrew. Anyone know how to change to English?

    Hi Phil,

If you have the desktop version of Logos it might be that you need to prioritise an English Dictionary above a Greek/Hebrew one.

Do you have an English dictionary in your library?

Hi Phil - and welcome to the forums

When I look up a word for origin and use it comes up in Greek & Hebrew

Just checking exactly what you are doing - presumably you are pressing on a word and selecting "Look up" from the popup menu. Is that correct?

If so, which translation are you using and which verse (particularly interested in whether Old or New Testament)?

Some Bibles are provided with "Reverse Interlinears" (RI) which are tagged with the underlying original languages and these are exposed when using the Lookup function. Selecting "Bible Word Study" from the "look up" pane will get you to more information including dictionaries which provide more context on the original language words and their meaning.

If you are using a Bible without a RI then the lookup just invokes the native iOS dictionary function.

I am not aware of anything which can be done to change this behaviour.

If this is a major issue then the Vyrso app (which is also available from Logos and accesses the same books) has a "Define" option on the "longpress" popup menu which accesses the iOS dictionary function.

If I have totally misunderstood what you are looking for, please advise!

    Graham

If you turn your device to airplane mode, the app will default to the iOS dictionary since RI lookups happen on the Logos servers.

Another option: go split screen with an English dictionary. When you need a definition, copy the word and do a lookup in the dictionary.
