Logos 4 - Netbook - Win 7 Starter

Hey all,

I did a search in regards to netbooks and found some pretty useful postings about the mixed success of L4 on netbooks. However, most of those posts were pretty old. My go-to computer is a macbook pro, but I was thinking about getting a little netbook with win7 starter for kicking around and throwing in my bag when I go to the library to study. I was wondering if anybody has had any better/worse success with L4 since win7 starter is shipping with a lot of netbooks now and after a few updates have been released from Logos.

BTW: despite the ever frustrating slow release of the mac software =( I am so stoked on L4... Great job guys! Just attended a camp logos and learned the in's and out's of the new system... ridiculous!

You may get a better fit from others to your question than me. I'm running L4 on a Dell 2100, Atom, 2G memory, 1.6g and the W7 fam-pack. I have all the MS hoopla turned off.

Just impressions, but L4 is sluggish on just about anything you want to do. I also run L3 and it's quite snappy (as well as all my other software).

As it turns out, I'm not unhappy since I like to set the OT up on L3, and the NT up on L4 and ALT-Tab as needed. Can really work fast.

One thing I notice is that on using a search on L4, it gets the search results fairly quickly but better go get a cup of coffee while it dumps them into the search window. Not sure the reason (resources are fully indexed). I've learned to do my easy searches in L3 which ironically is far faster. Searches using new L4 functionality of course mean a lot of coffee.

Also the gadgets have a lot to do with the resource indexing speed. I suspended them while indexing and dropped the time by almost 75%. Suspect it has to do with how the 2 cpus are being used.

My purchase of a netbook actually had to do with battery life. I'm good for a solid 8 or so hours, plus the touch screen is great.

No idea about Win 7 on a netbook, but with 2GB RAM on my Samsung NC10 (XP) Logos 4 is very usable for reading and OK for doing research. I purchased the NC10 from a colleague *because* I found Logos 4 was OK on it. With 2GB RAM it's better than OK but a little bit of patience during searches and using the various guides is needed.

I would have thought Win 7 on a higher end Netbook would be a good platform for Logos4. Then again, different people with similar spec machines have reported different performance characteristics. I wonder if the 'performance' is linked to the size of the resources owned, to particular resources or is a perception thing - quite likely a mixture of these.

I had the luxuary of trying before buying but find that I use Logos4 most often on the Netbook - ideal for sitting up in bed and reading!
