How can I use a "read through the Bible" guide alongside my Bible?

I have A Guide to Reading the Entire Bible in One Year set up in the top pane and my preferred Bible in the bottom pane. (Side note: I wish the Android app had a way to save layouts, as this is one I want to open daily and not have to manually set it up again each time.)

I know how to Link the panels, but they don't scroll in sync when I do this, because this particular read-through-the-bible guide is a Monograph and is not indexed by Scripture (I'll report that in a different thread).

So is there any way that I can click on the passage reference in the top panel and have it cause the bottom panel to jump to that reading?

    Hi Rosie,

If you turn off Link Panels, tapping references in the top panel should open them in the bottom panel.  Please see http://screencast.com/t/nWAzcUbXjx .  Let me know if that takes care of it for you.

Kevin, it doesn't work that way for me. It opens that reference in the top panel, replacing my bible reading guide.

BTW, how do you capture a screen recording on an Android device? I know how to do screenshots, but not videos. I could demonstrate to you how mine doesn't work.

    Hi Rosie.

i think, that for this to work, you need your preferred Bible open in your bottom panel.

    do you have this?

I thought I did, but apparently I didn't. I have TNIV open in the bottom panel and that's my preferred Bible on my desktop, but my preferred Bible on my Android is set to NIV (1984). Trying to change that...

But now I'm having trouble getting my preferred Bible setting to stick. When I select TNIV as my preferred Bible, it doesn't stick.

    1. Tap Gear icon

    2. Tap "Settings"

    3. Tap "Preferred Bible"

[Side note: Irritation: Why is this long list of Bibles I'm to choose my preferred Bible from not sorted alphabetically? And why doesn't it have my top prioritized Bibles at the top? And why can't I filter it somehow? It's enormous and a pain to have to scroll in every time.]

    4. Scroll down and find TNIV and tap it to select it.

    OK it's selected...for now.

But hit the Back button to get back out of Settings, and go into Settings again and the Preferred Bible is set back to NIV (1984).

    What gives?

They should sync - preferred on desktop should match preferred on Android (but I guess you knew that[:)])

Why is this long list of Bibles I'm to choose my preferred Bible from not sorted alphabetically?

    Agreed

And why doesn't it have my top prioritized Bibles at the top?

    And agreed again[:)]

But hit the Back button to get back out of Settings, and go into Settings again and the Preferred Bible is set back to NIV (1984).

On my phone I change the preferred Bible from NRSV (highest prioritised on desktop) to NIV. I then go back out of settings and back in again and the preferred Bible shows as NSRV, but about a second later I see it change to show NIV!

Something very strange is going on[:)]

That's what I would have thought, which is why I never even bothered to look for a preferred Bible setting on the Android app until now. I was surprised to find it different. What is going on here? Bug?

Why is this long list of Bibles I'm to choose my preferred Bible from not sorted alphabetically?

    Agreed

I have 493 items of type "Bible" in my Library (at least on my desktop; I am not going to count on the Android!). TNIV is #142 on the list (I did count that far). That's a long way to go to find my favorite Bible. Grumble, grumble, grumble!

But hit the Back button to get back out of Settings, and go into Settings again and the Preferred Bible is set back to NIV (1984).

Maybe it has to wait to sync or something. But I'm not seeing that behavior. It isn't changing back to what I'd selected if I wait a second or more (even a minute later it's still not changing for me).

I was thinking the Android app wasn't far enough along to actually use the last time I tried it several months ago. I'm beginning to think it still isn't far enough along. Sigh...

The video was creating using Jing while running the app through an Android Virtual Device created with the Android SDK.  I don't know of a way to capture videos using an actual device.

Why is this long list of Bibles I'm to choose my preferred Bible from not sorted alphabetically?

I've written up a case for this one - it works on iOS.

And why doesn't it have my top prioritized Bibles at the top?

There is currently no resource prioritization ordering when viewing the preferred Bible list in the mobile apps (on iOS, at least); doing so would conflict with alphabetical listing.

And why can't I filter it somehow?

I've written up a case for this one as well - it works on iOS.

    OK it's selected...for now.

But hit the Back button to get back out of Settings, and go into Settings again and the Preferred Bible is set back to NIV (1984).

The Preferred Bible setting on mobile is not immediately synced after selection; I'll write up a case for this.  As a workaround, in order to sync everything you can completely back out of the app and start it again in which case your Preferred Bible selection will be synced back to Desktop.
