Resource Reformatting Request Thread

I would like to start an open thread for requesting resource reformatting to increase the usefulness of particular resources that can be improved by being reformatted in some way. I have many resources that I probably wont use because they just don't show up in any of my guides or tools. So this thread is for Logos users to request that a particular resource be reformatted in some way that will make it more useful for them and other users. For example, this could be a request to scripture tag a particular resource that seems to be set up for Scripture tagging but wasn't, or giving a resource dictionary tagging, or just listing a resouce as a devotional rather than monograph. I'll start by requesting a few. Feel free to add any that would be more useful if reformatted in some way.

Certain types require certain formatting and certain indexes, and Logos can't change the book the author wrote.

Bible Commentaries and Bible Notes are books written as verse by verse (or at least chapter by chapter) commentaries on the Bible. Books that you can link to a Bible and scroll in parallel with it. They need to have a Bible index.

4000 Questions and Answers on the Bible doesn't have a Bible index and looks far from the typical candidate for one, but it doesn't seem altogether impossible to add one and make it into Bible Notes.
All the Questions in the Bible doesn't currently fill the criteria, but could be considered Bible Notes if a Bible index was added.
Baffled to Fight Better is clearly mislabelled. It lacks a Bible index, so it shouldn't currently be a Bible Commentary. But it looks like it is a commentary on Job, so it ought to have a Bible index.
The Finished Work of Christ: The Truth of Romans 1-8. Don't have it so I can't check.

Dictionaries, Lexicons and Encyclopedias require a Headword index.

131 Christians Everyone Should Know. Does have headwords, so Encyclopedia seems appropriate (Dictionary is for modern language (mainly English) dictionaries). I'll report it on the Metadata correction proposals page.

Calendar Devotionals are books that have readings assigned to specific dates.

Abide in Christ. Don't have it so I can't check.
Approved Unto God doesn't fit the criteria.

The Book of Concord, esp. the Kolb-Wengert edition. The tagging with the BookOfConcord Datatype is sporadic/inconsistent, the paragraphs that are numbered in the print edition are not displayed, (and usually not tagged)... Let's make this usable!

I didn't know this. It seems strange that Logos would have a stipulation like this. I hope they look into some resources that don't have the index in the back, but really would benefit from tagging.

I didn't know this either. I have a devotional category in my collections, and mainly wanted this as a devotional type so that it would automatically fit into that collection. It's too bad there isn't a day by day devotional type like both these works are.

BDAG has Greek Headwords, which should be sufficient to link with M-M, even if the hyperlinks don't work. I can't test this because I don't have M-M, but adding both to the same link set should be sufficient.

The "types" in Logos are largely functional, rather than descriptive. So if Logos changes a resources "type", that would have all kinds of knock-on effects throughout Logos, particularly with regard to the guides.

When you say these books are lacking Scripture tagging, what exactly do you mean by that? It does have all Scripture references marked as such (that is, tagged), and so if you do a search on say <Gen 33> in your Library (or in a collection that includes this book) the references to it in this book will show up in the Search results. Similarly for Passage Guides.

I think perhaps you mean it needs a Scripture Index, not tagging. It's important to use the right nomenclature.

It's not a Bible index in the back (created by the author/publisher of the book) that fgh was referring to, but an internal Bible index which Logos creates. It's not some arbitrary stipulation, but it's how the software works. They cannot scroll a book in sync with a Bible by Bible reference unless it has an internal Bible index. So yeah, it's doable, but they'd have to index the book by Scripture reference to make it happen. Which I suppose is really what you're asking for in your "reformatting" request.

Incidentally, you can tell if a Logos resource has an internal Bible index by looking at the info panel inside that book. There's a section where its indexes are listed:

A dictionary/encyclopedia is usually indexed by Page and by Headwords:

And a commentary or Bible is indexed by Bible (and usually also by Page number):

What indexes a book has will also determine what shows up in the navigation bar dropdown as a method for jumping to a particular part of that book:

This is known as the "active" index. In other words, as you page through this book while the Page index is active, the reference box will show you the current page number. If you page through when the Bible index is active, the reference box will show you what chapter/verse you are currently looking at. Similarly for dictionaries or encyclopedias indexed by Headword, and so on.

Bottom line: I agree that All the Questions in the Bible should by indexed by Bible, and Baffled to Fight Better, and The Finished Work of Christ: The Truth of Romans 1-8. I don't have 4000 Questions and Answers on the Bible, so I can't check whether I agree on that one, but I presume you're onto something.

I don't think 131 Christians Everyone Should Know can be indexed by Headword (what you're calling "Dictionary tagging") because the entries are not in alphabetical order. It certainly is the type of book that would be nice if you could jump directly to an entry by typing the person's name in the reference box. But I don't know of any other precedent for non-alphabetized books that work this way.

I've been doing that as a workaround and confirm it works. A link would be nice though.

Like I said above: it already is indexed by headword. It's just been assigned the wrong type.

I don't know of any other precedent for non-alphabetized books that work this way.

We have several Greek lexicons that list prefixed words together with their unprefixed relative, instead of where they belong alphabetically. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

I went ahead and added the four that lack a Bible index, but from what I could see with a quick look, this is a page where we add books, but Logos never removes them. Which makes me wonder if relevant people at Logos even reads it. I'll ask somewhere better.

I've already been in email contact with someone from Logos who has forwarded my email on to the supervisor of the Text Development Department and will get back to me when she finds out what is up with that. Perhaps the Text Development Department didn't even know about that wiki page, but someone needs to take ownership of it internally and see to it that books we add to it don't just end up in a black hole.

If someone has too much time on his/her hand, feel free to check the books on the list. I removed three Sprouls that turned out to now have page indexes, but most of those books aren't exactly the kind I buy, so I don't have that many of them. Nor do I have the time.

Yes, basically the same as Bible milestones in a PB, like a commentary or Bible notes resource.

Thanks I had no idea!

I also found that the Baker Exegetical Commentary (at least the vol. on Romans) links to the additional notes at the end of each section, instead of linking to the beginning of the section on the corresponding Scripture. When navigating through the commentary with a linked Bible one has to scroll back up to the beginning of the section instead of being able to start where the section begins.
