Logos 5 Crash When Loading a Layout

My Macbook Pro Retina System crashes every time I go to the Layout menu to choose one of my predefined layouts. While the software is loading my layout, Logos 5 just completely crashes and shuts down. I just updated to the latest version of Logos 5 when this started to happen.

I, then, took out my Mid 2010 Macbook pro which I did not update Logos 5 and it loaded my layout without a problem. Then I updated to the latest version of Logos 5 to see what would happen and sure enough as soon as I tried to load one of my predefined layouts, Logos crashed.

I updated my Retina machine on July 2 or 3 and I updated my Mid 2010 machine on July 6 with the latest Logos 5 Software.

I have not tried this on my windows machine. Unfortunately, I will not update to the latest version of Logos on it because I do not want to risk losing the layout functionality on that machine too.

I hope you can develop a fix for this problem soon.

Is it just the ONE layout? Do other layouts work fine? If so, try rebuilding the layout from scratch.

I did notice in your crash.txt file a warning about a corrupted database file. It isn't one I am familiar with, and I am reluctant to tell you to delete it without someone more knowledgable giving the thumbs up. Here is the warning:

Error detail: CorruptIndexException: The SQLite lexicon at '/Users/david2068/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/l2pxl6tg.fee/LibraryIndex/index-build.lxn' could not be opened: database disk image is malformed

One other thing: Do you have the LEB Audio Book working? If you don't know, 5.1 adds the ability for a new kind of "read aloud" which utilizes audio books. Right now, there is only one and its free. In the LEB NT, you should be able to select a new narrator voice, which is actually an audio book (rather than an OSX computer generated voice). Some users were having difficulties and needed to delete a file to get the licenses to reset for download. I think you may have this problem. Let me know and I will look up the solution.

It happens with any layout I choose. Even a layout created from the last time I opened Logos 5. Again, this did not start happening on my Retina machine until after I installed the most recent Logos 5 update.

I, again, tried opening predefined layouts on my mid 2010 Macbook pro without an issue until I updated the Logos 5 software on it as well. I used the my predefined layouts for several days on my 2010 macbook pro before I updated it to the latest release. Once updated, when I open a layout, Logos 5 crashes.

I did not update Logos 5 software on my Windows machine and my layouts work just fine. Therefore, I have eliminated the layout as possibly being corrupted on two seperate machines. One being a windows machine and the other being an OS X machine (OS X Mountain Lion).

Also, I have not used LEB Audio Book. I was aware of the "read aloud" functionality but have not attempted to use it.

I am using Windows 7, so it does not appear to be just a mac issue. The layout loads okay, but shows up as a smaller window. When I attempt to maximize the window, Logos 5 freezes and becomes unresponsive. Has anyone else had this issue?

I am not sure what is happening on the Mac side, but I too am a windows user running the latest version of L50. I am not experiencing any issues with layouts either loading them, or switching them.

Michael if you can upload logs that would help diagnose the problem you are having. Very often the symptoms can appear to be the same, but the problem causing the symptoms is often very diffferent.

The logs are in the post referenced above. Happily, the problem seems to be fixed. I found two of the layouts that were causing the problem and deleted them. Additionally, I was able to create a new layout and it works perfectly! I am also now able to switch between it and the other two layouts I have.

The SQLite lexicon file is part of the Library index, which can take hours to rebuild.

One option is email to Logos Technical Support => http://www.logos.com/contact with reference to this thread.

If want to force Library index to be rebuilt, could move LibraryIndex folder to the trash and start Logos 5.1 Alternative is launch Logos 5.1 to a blank layout, then use rebuild library index command.

I hope you can develop a fix for this problem soon.

The logs indiate a problem with one of your Guides (Passage or Exegetical) in the layout. I would suggest a similar course of action to above by starting Logos from a blank layout and rebuilding the layout from scratch. Avoid Guides with Graceway Media and Sermon Central until Logos starts normally.

If Logos still crashes when indexing then delete the folder Users/david2068/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/l2pxl6tg.fee/LibraryIndex and restart Logos (indexing will take some time).
