Searching in L5 is now convoluted and too key-stroke intensive, how do I return to L5.0?
Welcome to the forums. You can't easily downgrade, and even if you could it wouldn't be a good idea to run out-dated versions of the software. But very little has changed between L5.1 and L5.0 with regard to searching, so hopefully you won't need to. What exactly seems to be the problem - perhaps we can help?
I have have been told by Logos that downgrading is a poor option. The search problem is when I type "covenant theology" it does not stay within that topic and brings up covenant theologians, biblical covenants, and covenant schools none of which fall within the topic of "Covenant Theology." When doing a search at the home page in the "go" window it's even worse; it brings up a pericope of Josh 24 (?) and then only brings up those references to Josh 24 -- all of which have nothing to do with Covenant Theology. This was either not a problem at all with L5.0 or I did not encounter this particular problem. (???)

If you're starting from the "Go" box on the home page, that has indeed changed in Logos 5. If you type Covenant Theology into that box, but wait before pressing "Go" or "Enter", you'll see what's happening. Logos doesn't fully understand what you're typing, and suggests that you look at a passage about the covenant (which is Joshua 24). You can ignore that suggestion and choose Search for Covenant Theology at the bottom of the list instead. That will bring up an ordinary search, which will give you much more relevant results.
Most of the time, typing a topic into the Home Page works reasonably well, and Logos has thousands of topics that it recognises. Unfortunately, covenant theology is not one of them, which is why Logos tried (and failed) to guess what you wanted. That's because the vast majority of the topics are those that you'd find in Bible dictionaries, not those that you'd find in Theological dictionaries. I'm sure that will change in the future, but for now, you'll have to choose the 'search for' option when looking for a theological topic that isn't found in Bible dictionaries.

If looking for article(s) or chapter(s) about covenant theology, could search Heading Text and Large Text in library:
Noticed Topic Guide does not have covenant theology in drop down list.

I don't believe this search issue is a 5.0 vs. 5.1 issue. I assume you are doing a Basic search that you are searching All Text in Entire Library, and you are putting the search text in quotation marks, if not, you are searching for any occurrence of either word, rather than the phrase "covenant theology."
To narrow your search to more relevant information, you can either filter what you are searching, or search a collection of works instead of your entire library. For example searching my Entire Library for only Heading Text; Large Text; Topic, reduces the amount of hits from 194 to 21 in 7 resources (in my library, obviously your numbers may differ). If I search All Text in my collection titled Reformed Theology, I get 7 results, if I choose the broader collection of all the books I put in my Theology collection, I get 113 results.
These search strategies are not new to 5.1, and have been working like this since 4.0
My guess is that when you upgraded from 5.0 to 5.1, either your search settings got lost, or you changed something in your search dialog and forgot that you changed it. The latter happens to me with embarrassing frequency.
Thanks, all that helps but does not produce the results I'm use to getting, I do think my search setting were lost and I'm will have to reeducate myself on how to reset them. (It's been years since I dealt with them.) I am disappointed.

What were the results you used to get for this particular search? Or did you used to get different results for different searches. I'm asking because if you enter a topic that is known by Logos then you'll get different (and much better results). I don't think it's related to search settings.
When I would do a topic search all "hits" would be on that topic it would not bring up spurious hits such as covenant theologians, covenant schools, and covenants in general.
I suggest that you place the name of the topic in quotation mark, because it's a phrase. That way Logos will know that you are interested in that exact phrase. That will weed out the other topics.
Yes, I already do that, please refer to the first post. But thanks for the thought.
I do have "match all word forms" checked.
Can you post a screenshot of what you see, please? When I type "covenant theology" in quotation marks, I get highly relevant results. That might help us see what is different for you.

Sorry, don't know how to do a screen shot.
Mark gave you a link to learn. See his last post.
Thanks, I will take a look at it tomorrow afternoon if time permits. Thanks for all your help, hope to "talk" to you tomorrow.
Here's a screenshot from my computer, which shows you what I see. Obviously we will have different resources, so we won't see exactly the same results, but you can see that my results are all quite useful and relevant.
Thanks for all your help!
I am out of time this month to work on the search bugs in Logos. I have notified Logos so hopefully they will come up with a fix.
Thanks again.

I don't think the issue is to "work on the search bugs in Logos." These are not bugs. You need to follow the suggestions given above. I learn new things and new ways of doing things all the time when using this software.
