Noobie, strugling noobie interlinear set-up

I am a noobie to L4. I love L3and have used it for the last year and half. I upgraded to platinum from the L3 gold package. I loved the way the interlinear was set up in L3. I am having a hard time with how this new operates. However, I have not gone through all the learning videos yet. The whole layout of Logos 4 is so different. Is there any other noobies out there who have had a hard time with L4 but hung in there and believe L4 is indeed better than L3? Are the new additions worthy of a whole new program for this old dog to learn? I would also like someone that is experienced at both to tell me specifically why L4 is better than L3. I have been studying my bible for at least 15 years, have had numerous different bible programs and I am used to being able to learn through trial and error but for me L4 has been far more difficult to learn. I am willing to "hang in there" if it will help me learn about my Father and His Word.

yes, it's quite different and lots of people have had a hard time with it. I believe that Logos is going to offer an alternative that looks like the V3 version next year...it's not something you'll purchase, just a "check box" or something.

However, I have not gone through all the learning videos yet.

You might also consider videos by John Fallahee; former Logos employee who's put together a very inexpensive interactive DVD video. Just search here on the forums for that.

I really think that they are...I really do. I loved V3 and I love V4 even more. Please be patient and learn the ways of V4 and try not to duplicate your "method of getting there" from V3, the fact is...there are lots of differences, but there are lots of new ways to do things, and just like when you started V3...you learned to work "with" the software didn't you?

PS: V3 and V4 can work along side each other; lots of people are doing that as there are some things in V4 not implimented yet.

I like V4 better for it's much cooler UI, for it's much improved searching; both speed and flexibilty. For some of it's information analysis tools, the biblical places thing, the Bible word study, just all of it.

I DO MISS some things, most of which are coming back soon....most next year 2010.

L4 has huge potential for improvement whilst L3 is at the end of the road. What you see with dynamic Collections is the tip of the iceberg http://wiki.logos.com/Collections. What you can do in Library to change titles (long and short), tag resources and rate them is the start of the road toward effectively managing a large library (> 800 resources) which was always beyond the ability of v3. Hide resources you don't like and they are removed from the hard disk until you decide to un-hide them! Basic Search is much faster than v3, so you end up not having as many Collections as v3 because you don't have to restrict the search range.

the Command bar is way ahead of the v3 Quick Navigate because it pretty well anticipates what you want to do, typically opening resources or searching or invoking commands like Update Now.

You can tailor Passage Guide and ExegeticalGuide so that you have one Guide with the ability of both, or separate guides just providing the content you want.

The maps are far superior and the ability to handle images by searching for particular ones surpasses v3.

Then there are the tools like Cited By (a bit verbose, but being changed in 4.0a beta) and Information on words .... that do some things quite differently to v3.

Sure there are missing features http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures, but hang around for them, and then watch out for the leaps forward over the next 2 years!

Wow! Yall are great. I have never had a question answered so thoroughly. This is just great. I can't wait to implement the different learning avenues yall showed here and I never thought of using L3 and L4 together to help out. I honestly have never been a forum participant but I will now. I really was afraid to sound stupid here. I have read some stuff that was way above me. But yall are really kind and supportive. Thanks so much to both of you for helping so much.

Robert, I went to the 4.14 site of Pastor Barnes and I learned about prioritizing. It was great.

Dave, I went to the "missing features" article at logos and it was very encouraging.

The more I learn, the more I feel comfortable, the more I study. I could do this all day long! I love it!
