Do I need to continue to have Logos 3 installed on my laptop if I now have Logos 4? I am running out of hard drive and would like to eliminate 3 if possible.
No you do not need Logos 3. Logos 4 is missing a few features of Logos 3, so make sure that you do not need those features.http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures
No, you don't have to have Logos3 on your laptop.
However, there are some reasons to consider leaving it on for now:
The L3 program itself doesn't use much HD space, but to save some hard drive space you could do one of these:
Finally, these days an external drive can be fairly inexpensive. You can buy a 1TB drive for under $100 in many places. If you move a lot of your media files (music, photos, etc.) to the external drive, you can gain a lot of HD space on your lap top fairly easily, quickly, and cheaply.
Good response, Richard...these are the very reasons I keep L3 on my computer...updated a prepub yesterday from CD and have recently purchased a product from Nelson....plus, sometimes when studying I have L3 up beside in case my mind goes blank on L4 and I want a quick answer...still in the learning curve on L4, but I really love it...
The L3 program itself doesn't use much HD space, but to save some hard drive space you could do one of these: Remove all your L3 resources. Remove only your L3 resources that are duplicated in your L4 folder (if you don't know how to do that, I'll tell you). Finally, these days an external drive can be fairly inexpensive. I wish there were a way to store Logos resources on a secondary (internal) hard disk to save space on the main one where Windows and programs are installed. Has this been brought up before, or is it worth raising as a suggestion? I personally have a humongous 1TB drive non-partitioned, so I'm fine (for now). But I can imagine this issue might affect others who upgraded their computer to more disk space by adding a second internal drive. Currently, there is no way to tell Logos where to look for its resources, as far as I'm aware. Right?
Yes!
Resources are installed with the application. With Win 7 and Vista you can create a symbolic link to point to resources in another location - see

You can do this with L4, but you can with L3. Searches will be slower in L3, but this would free up a lot of HDD space and still allow you to keep L3 on your computer as a back up. The setting in L3 are found in Tools-Options-Resource Path.
