Yesterday spellcheck was working great in LOGOS notes on my Mac did an update today and now its gone? Where did it go? I NEED it... please, please, please tell me its still there?
Shane.
please, please tell me its still there?
Sorry, no. The old notes engine's for both Mac & PC depended upon each perspective OS. This is actually what allowed the Mac app to have spell check but the PC one didn't. The new notes engine ends the dependance upon the OS, but a consequence is that spell check has disappeared.
I certainly hope they plan to add spell check back somehow. This is totally not cool and unacceptable! [:@]
Makes me about half tempted to cancel my last purchase of the best part of $2k.

I agree.

I dont agree. The notes engine needed to be reworked for a number of reasons, but to do that required that it be fully a LOGOS notes engine, and not dependent upon the OSX one. I really hate to see spell check go, and I think Logos should work to add it back in. This was one of the few areas where the Mac app was superior to the PC app... [8-|] I'm not sure how difficult or expensive the endeavor might be, but hopefully it can and will be done. In fact, if Logos were to create their own spell check, it might conceivably be better than the OSX one, since Logos users have a different vocabulary set to work with than the average OSX user. Wouldn't it be great for the spell checker to know and recommend how to spell difficult theological words? Popular transliterations of Greek & Hebrew? [Hey, someone get Bob on the line right away! [:D]]
The big question is when will it be added back? Or maybe "Is it going to be added back at all?"
It won't take me very many days to get totally frustrated with this. I need a spellchecker and I need it today and tomorrow and on and on. I refuse to wait for it to come out as a new feature in version 6.
Logos! We need answers on this now!

Spell-check is an important feature. I guess we just have to be patient while the development team works on this but it sure can be frustrating at times.
Are you a Mac user Bruce? I didn't remember that…
OK, I'm Swedish, and I can write English without a spell-check, so why can't you?[6] You can't all be dyslectic.
I can easily think of dozens of improvements I need far more than this.

Thanks for rubbing it in. On a related note, my spell check always wants to change fgh to ugh. [:P]

Sounds like a good reason not to use one.[:D]
(Or you could just teach it to accept fgh. They can learn, you know.[:P])

But you have to have one to teach it! [;)]
We used to have one [:(]

Hi Bruce,
Patience is all well and good and I wish mine ranked up there with the best of them, sometimes it is and sometimes not. This is one of the not situations. I have no patience for companies that "break things to fix others." Very counter-productive in my opinion and very Microsoft-like which was one of the main reasons I switched to Mac. I know the notes feature needed fixed, but it should not have been done at the expense of breaking something else. That kind of stuff just flips my switch.
By the way, this message comes by means of a spellchecker on the forum web site. Pretty bad that one is here and no longer in the program. [*-)]

Tim - I know you are upset, but I don't think you understand. Spell Check isn't broken. The forums don't have Spell Check. OSX does. Logos never did. Logos utilized the OSX notes engine, with the unintended benefit of spell check, and now they don't. Most Logos users never had this benefit. Hopefully it will be added, and I hope Logos will chime in.
We used to have one
If I remember correctly, we used to have one that had to be turned on for each note separately. In my book, that made it useless. My notes seldom include more than a few words.
I know the notes feature needed fixed, but it should not have been done at the expense of breaking something else.
Technically, Logos never included a spell-check, so technically they didn't break it. It wasn't designed. It wasn't coded. It wasn't promised. It wasn't ever in Windows. It was just something that accidentally happened to [sort of] work on Mac, because of how the Mac OS works.
First let me say that I am not trying to pick a fight with you or anyone else.
Second, I do understand. My spellchecker still works with the forum. It is not broke. What is broke is the ability that notes had before to work with my spellchecker. Now that ability is broke. I just want that back. Really not much to ask I think.
If it did not work for the Microsoft version that is their problem. Logos should have fixed that not taken from Mac what did work. I mean goodness we certainly can't have Mac doing something Windows won't. We only need to look back one version to see that everything has always been identical across the board.
I'm done. End of story! I've been slapped by the big boys too many times. I'll go back to my corner and hide for a few months again.

Take some responsibility for your own work. As a science teacher I had many, many moons ago used to say "Look it up in the dictionary." If you have any doubts regarding your spelling, look it up ! You might actually learn something in the process (but we can't have that since it must all be done for us).
As I understand it, they had to build their own note editor in order to make other things work on Mac that already work on Windows (like auto-linking), and in order to be able to improve the note editor in other ways. But Apple's spell-check only works in Apple's note editor, so building their own inevitably meant losing that. To get a spell-check now, I believe they have to build their own, which probably isn't all that easy. And while you may want them to do that immediately, there are plenty of other people who have far higher priorities.
I never even knew spellcheck was available. Running PC I sometimes wished I had one, but it certainly never rose to the level of more than an annoyance at times.
I anticipate that the benefits of having OS independent features outweigh the benefit of having an OS-dependent spellchecker.
As a science teacher I had many, many moons ago used to say "Look it up in the dictionary." If you have any doubts regarding your spelling, look it up !
George - I love you. I really do. I can't believe you told kids that. I was told that by a teacher once… IF I KNEW HOW TO LOOK IT UP, I'D KNOW HOW TO SPELL IT! [:P]
In fairness however, my experience was probably in 3rd grade. [:)]

I didn't; a teacher I had did that. It was in Jr High. I generally looked up things that looked little hinky or that I was generally unsure about without his advice.
OK. My faith is restored. [:)]
So in LOGOS 5, I had the benefit of iOS spell checker and in 5.1 I don't. How then can I undo this latest update? At this stage I don't see the benefit of Notes independent of iOS if that means losing spell checker.
How then can I undo this latest update?
I don't know for sure… You will have to download the old engine, but I am not sure where to get the link. There are a number of other files which will have changed, so those will need to be replaced. Hopefully you would be able to use the "scan" method to save yourself downloading of resources. You would also need to make sure that "use internet" is turned off… otherwise, Logos will redownload the new engine.
I would not do anything until a techie gives you specific instructions.
At this stage I don't see the benefit of Notes independent of iOS if that means losing spell checker.
Can I be honest with you? I think you are making a mistake. I know that you are upset about not having spell check. I'm right there with you… but keeping "up to date" is important, and there will be unforeseen consequences for not doing so. Anyways, you could always use something like evernote to use spell check and paste the note back in.
By the way, I did write to Bob, but have yet to hear back.
To the Original Poster my apology.
To the rest of you you should be ashamed. Now why in the world would a person be that upset over something so minor. I saw the chance and had to take it and you guys swallowed it hook, line and sinker. HaHaHaHa You guys are funny![:D]
Once again, my apology to the Original Poster.
Who kneeds a spilczeck?
I spilt coffee on my shorts. I need a spill check!
Spell checkers. Smart Phones. GPSs. Google. I'm stupider now than I have ever been in my life (I'm fairly certain I'm not exaggerating [spell checker fixed that last word!]). With every technological leap, I grow stupider. Wee! This is great stuff! Why learn it when you can Google it?
Logos 5.0b SR-4 download link for OS X => https://s3.amazonaws.com/downloads.logos.com/LBS5/Installer/5.0.2.0755/LogosMac.dmg
After Logos 5.1 has launched, the database files are upgraded. An older version,, e.g. 5.0b SR-4, will crash with newer database files. Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Uninstalling_Logos_4_Mac that has similar steps for uninstalling Logos 5, whose application name has changed. To avoid re-downloading all resources, wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_Multiple_Macs#Copy_Logos_Resources_to_Mac_OS_X
Caveat: reverting to an older Logos release also means avoiding automatic updates to install newer releases.
Option: use Personal Books with Notes. Many docx editors have spell check. Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books
Keep Smiling [:)]
I am not someone that uses notes in Logos, but.
If you really need to spellcheck can't you just type it in MS Word and copy and paste it to the note.
I understand this would be extra work and maybe take a little more time but it could help.
