JPS Torah Commentary: Author's Translation Missing

It has been more than 6 months since I bought the JPS Commentaries Collection (9 vol.). I just realized that the original author's translation of the Hebrew text is NOT included in the logos version even though it appears on almost every page of the hardcopies.

For example, The JPS Torah Commentary on the book of Deuteronomy, Jeffrey Tigay, gave his translation side by side with the Hebrew text on top of each page where he gave his commentary for each of the related verse. However, this is totally missing from the Logos version.

I wish Logos would make it clear in the product description the discrepancies between their Logos version and the actual hardcopies. I would have opt for the hardcopies should I know that logos version is actually different from the actual hardcopies.

Can someone from Logos address this?

I've double checked both Amazon and JPS. Isn't the translation given the JPS translation rather than Tigay?

I do not have the latest JPS version so I cannot tell. However, I checked and found the English translations in Tigay's commentary is different than the JPS 1917 translation which I found free online. My logos package does not have any JPS translation at all. Does yours have it? Do you have Logos Portfolio? What is the year of publication of the JPS translation of which you are referring?

I'm fairly certain that the translation included in the JPS Tanakh commentaries is the Jewish Publication Society Tanakh (1985) and not the author's translation. That's why the text isn't included in the Logos module. You can purchase the JPS Tanakh (1985) for $10 (or less, usually, if you contact a sales rep).

I agree.

They seem to be doing just that with the Jewish Study Bible where it's relatively clear that "this resource does not include the Bible texts." Adding the same disclaimer to the JPS Tanakh series would make sense.

"As with any other commentary that includes running Bible text from an existing translation these resources contain only the commentary portion of the print editions. This collection does not include the JPS Tanakh or full Hebrew text."

I'm glad logos added the "callout" today. For your information, this callout was not there on the logos webpage for this 9-volume JPS Commentary Collection as of yesterday, July 11, 2013. I know this for sure because when I talked to a Logos representative yesterday about this problem, we both looked at this webpage just yesterday and this callout was not there. This callout certainly was not there when I first purchased this set last year.

So, I would not say that this set "had" the callout. I would say that Logos just adds this callout today.

What you saw "yesterday" was the current 11-volume collection. She's saying that while the collection had only 9 volumes, the 'callout' was there, but when they added the two newest volumes, they forgot to include it.

This prompted me to check what I had against the listing on the website for the 11 vols. I noted that I only show 10 vols and apparently my library search for "type:commentary title:jps" is somehow faulty since I note on searching the website for "haggadah" alone shows up greyed out indicating I have it. Indeed, I do as I found on looking in my library for "haggadah." Apparently something is preventing this from showing up with the other vols in my library. This is something which should be fixed (Are you listening, Logos?).

What's preventing it from showing up is that it's a Monograph, not a Commentary. It can't be made into a Commentary, since a Commentary needs to be indexed in such a way that it can follow the text it is commenting on, and there is no datatype to achieve that.

If you'd been less ambitious and simply filtered for commentary jps, you would have been fine.

Jani, the title on the product page is incorrect. It says The JPS Torah Commentary on the Haggadah, but it should be just The JPS Commentary on the Haggadah.
