Baptist Products? Methodist Products?

Are there really no product managers for Baptist products and Methodist products! Why is this? Why don't they have their own forums?

I would agree with you, except for one issue. It already takes longer to mark unwanted forums read than it does to read the good stuff (only a small exaggeration) [:D]

It is probably fair to say that most products not falling under the categories assigned to a particular product manager are Baptist or evangelical in perspective (not all, but most).

I will say that we are looking into more product manager areas, including Methodist/Wesleyan. Your points regarding the size of the audience are certainly valid and a key factor in such decisions.

Yes, we of the Wesleyan - Methodist persuasion are a most sensitive bunch, no doubt. However, my slighted feelings would be completely healed if Logos could find a way to publish The Bicentennial Edition of Wesley's Works.

There really aren't that many Baptist-specific resources -- far fewer than the Reformed, Catholic, Pentecostal, and Anglican resources. And losing all the Moody resources certainly didn't help.

As a Baptist, I'd love to request some neglected Baptist resources, like James Leo Garrett's 2 volume Systematic Theology and Stanley Grenz's Theology for the Community of God. I'd also be interested in reading some African-American Baptist authors, like Howard Thurman, or Martin Luther King. (Logos doesn't have anything by Martin Luther King!!!).

How about you, Gabe? If you can handle three groups, surely a fourth or fifth would be no problem? [;)]

Regarding MLK, I assume you're looking for historical perspective, rather than theological instruction / illumination. Since you're Reformed Baptist, if the latter, you'll be disappointed, as King was very liberal and held a number of unbelieving positions.

Overall, Logos does a great job of publishing a wide variety of Christian resources. And I appreciate it. I don't really feel slighted.

I do think these new specialized forums are a good idea. It may help Logos know what resources certain groups are interested in. However, I hope they don't tend to encourage people to be too narrow in their choice of resources. There is often much to be gained from scholars and theologians with whom you disagree.

I am Wesleyan in theology, but I do appreciate resources outside my tradition. For instance, I would not trade the NICOT/NT for any Wesleyan only commentary. I would not trade my Spurgeon's Sermons for anything - period. I would not give up my Martyn Lloyd-Jones either.

My philosophy is that it doesn't matter too much what label is on an empty bottle. It matters what is inside. If the writer has a heart for God, and sound scholarship, I will benefit from his / her work. I am secure enough in my theology not to fear other opinions. I think that is true of most of us.

As someone mentioned, all of Dr. White's works are on the way (should be this month). I'll work to reach out to these other publishers, as well, since they fall under the Reformed banner.

I'm a conservative Reformed Baptist, but I don't read books simply to reinforce my own positions. Martin Luther King was proclaiming freedom to the oppressed and addressing social issues at a time when many conservative white Christians had their heads in the sand. I think Christians of all denominations and races can learn from that. Count me in favor of adding to Logos many African-American preachers, teachers, and authors, both liberal and conservative.

I don't either and wasn't suggesting anyone else do so. There's a difference between that and providing a heads-up on a subject. I have in my Logos library all manner of opposing views to my Reformed Baptist beliefs, since it is important to represent opposing views accurately. But I realize that I am very unlikely to learn any biblical truths from them. Among them are: Liguori, Canons of Trent, Charles Finney, Joseph Smith, the New World Translation, Gregory Boyd, the Qur'an and a couple of Hadiths, to name a few.

My reply to your post was qualified regarding the purpose of reading MLK. Dr. King's theology is all but ignored on the popular level, so many are unaware of the errors. I'm sure this is because anything spoken negatively about his theology would produce an immediate response about politics or civil rights, even though the original point was theological. Your reply to me is a case in that point.

Count me in favor of providing and receiving advice from fellow believers.

I did not know that Pentecostals only 8.5% I n US. I think it does not include charismatics and other who speak in tongues.

Thanks for the advice, Robert. My thought is that a Christian response to civil rights IS theology. Sometimes the "liberals" produce better orthopraxy than the conservatives. That, to me, speaks negatively about the orthodoxy of the conservatives. Semper Reformanda.

Before Gabe and Ben and Rich started, 'their' denominations had far fewer resources as well, simply because the existing resources weren't tagged properly (even the BCP wasn't tagged as Anglican!). Most likely, there are plenty of Baptist and Methodist books that aren't tagged as such.

Before Gabe and Ben and Rich started, 'their' denominations had far fewer resources as well, simply because the existing resources weren't tagged properly (even the BCP wasn't tagged as Anglican!). Most likely, there are plenty of Baptist and Methodist books that aren't tagged as such.

That is true, although I think there are plenty of resources from all denominations that aren't tagged properly. The Logos tagging at least gives a rough estimate. Regardless, it's a good reason to have a Baptist and Wesleyan/Methodist representative -- so they can properly tag products!
