Surface RT (Price Drop)

Well, partially to gloat, but mostly to help my friends out… I thought I would let y'all know about MSFT's plans to drop Surface RT prices significantly. Despite their new ad campaign making fun of the iPad, Apple is still kicking MSFT to the curb. Stick out tongue

Also, in case you weren't aware, Barnes & Noble has decided to leave the tablet market, which was apparently the reasoning for the Father's Day sale, which has continued. If you want a cheap-but-nice Android tablet, check those out.

Or you could wait for the 5th gen iPad like me. Smile

This wasn't the case in March - http://community.logos.com/forums/p/65459/468039.aspx#468039 - and I doubt much has changed since then (but I have no inside information)

Right, and for that reason I can't imagine the Surface RT being of much interest to Logos users.

The Surface Pro is another matter. A number of folks are running full Logos 5 on the Surface Pro very successfully - something that will never happen on an iPad! I have been very impressed with their recommendations.

I personally use the iPad 4 at this time. But the iPad will never be much more than a fancy ebook reader for Logos, with a few other limited functions. Surface Pro shows promise.

I know that you are tempted by the dark side… but I can't imagine that I would want to use the full version of Logos on a touch tablet… At least not without significant UI modifications by Logos (which at this point they should not waste their time doing). I would want a bigger screen & a keyboard. Add a keyboard to a surface pro? Why just not buy a laptop!

Once I can have PB's on my iPad, I can't think of any reason I would spend the money on a windows tablet to do what my windows laptop does. I do not have a huge number of PB's, but plan to compile my weekly sermons notes, and other personal / group lessons once the feature is available.

Seems that the Surface Pro can be as good an ebook reader as iPad, plus be a very good mini laptop. You could actually do some heavy lifting study and run Word at the same time for sermon prep. You just can't do that with any ipad. I love my iPad, and have had one since iPad 1. It is the best ebook reader I have. But as far as Logos is concerned, that is about all it is. (Though I use my iPad for many other entertainment purposes, as well.)

The Surface Pro Keyboard attaches and detaches easily and instantly and smoothly. Much better than an iPad Bluetooth keyboard. Also with the Keyboard, Surface Pro is not that much heavier than an iPad with a case. I am seriously considering going with Surface Pro next time to run full Logos. Can you say "Personal Books"?

That scholar and gentleman David Thomas does so already, and he assures me that he "connects an external monitor to my Surface Pro for the most effective sermon prep (Logos on one monitor, Word on the other). The Surface Pro has the power to effectively drive that setup and the portability when I just want to open Logos to follow along with another pastor's sermon or read in bed." That is a lot better than an iPad.

Several who do so also say there is no trouble running Logos 5 on the tablet. I expressed that concern.

In addition, with Windows 8, I could run an iso version of the Bicentennial Works of Wesley cd, which I have long wanted on my iPad. I would not be in Logos 5, but I could run it AND Logos 5 at the same time.

Besides, despite my iPad and my iPhone, I just don't like Apple very much. I am very tempted indeed. I just will have to wait until it is financially practical for me to make the change. By then Surface Pro, or something else, may be even better.

I have doubts about this. I think the mobile app itself, unrelated to the hardware, is superior to L5 for reading and highlighting.

Because with the type cover on my Surface pro I can fold it all the way behind my tablet and set my device flat on the pulpit for preaching or carry it with me around the platform easier than an ultrabook.

Technically yes, but practically not so. Because:

You could actually do some heavy lifting

...Let me conveniently stop right here because literally, that's the issue. I have both but I do NOT use the Surface as an ebook reader because of its weight. If I want to recline and read, I use the iPad... (that is until I get the paperwhite which is not going to happen until after Logos implements the send-to-Kindle feature.)

Thanks for the info, Sleiman. That is helpful. I do a lot of reading on my iPad, as well. Don't have a Surface Pro, so I am interested in as many knowledgeable opinions as I can get.

I, too, am pleased that Logos may implement a send to Kindle feature. That will be nice. However, I personally find reading on an iPad to be as comfortable for my eye as reading on the kindle. (I am blind in my right eye, but have no eyestrain problem with the ipad. I do adjust the brightness for darker conditions.

I am using a Paperwhite now to finish reading my catalog of Kindle deal books [:)] and I have to say its chief benefit is the fact that it is single-purpose. No distractions allow me to get more reading done than on my tablets.
