Hastings Dictionary of the Bible OR ISBE 1915

Does anyone know the differences between these 2 CP resources? Hastings dictionary has almost 1,000 pages more than ISBE, but ISBE is an encyclopedia. Does anyone know any siginificant differences though? I'm actually not sure the difference between a dictionary and encyclopedia? Which is better for use in Bible study? Anyone familiar that can speak to which is better in general?

My suggestion...split the difference and get Hasting's Encyclopaedia. It's the most important resource on CP, bar none. It's important that you bid at least $60 though. It's easily worth three times that amount.

Thanks for the suggestion David! I bid on it a while back. I didn't realize that this was also Hastings. Now I have more questions.. How is the Hastings Encylopedia different from the Hastings Dictionary, and how are both of these different from ISBE 1915? Is it worth having more than just one of these 3 resources? They all seem to accomplish the same goal..?

I'm not exactly sure that there is a hard and fast demarcation between subject dictionaries and encyclopedias...they do seem pretty close at times. However, I think that encyclopedias do tend to have longer articles for the most part, but even that is relative to the subject matter. I have orders on all three of these, plus I already purchased the single-volume Hastings Dictionary, which is not merely a condensed version of the 5-volume dictionary.
