Greek and Hebrew Input

From speaking to customer service, I was disappointed to find out that I no longer have the option of typing in Greek or Hebrew with the F2 key switch. I also used those keyboards for MS Word. It is my understanding that they no longer work there as well. Being able to type in the original languages to look for info was a big plus for Logos. Are there plans to add this feature back?

You can still use the keyboards to enter Greek, Hebrew and Syriac, but the method has changed slightly. You are correct that in L4 you can no longer use F2 to toggle keyboards. What you need to do is to follow instructions in the PDF which comes with the keyboards to install them in Windows where you can use a key combination to toggle between keyboards (I use <alt-shft-1> for English, <alt-shft-2> for Greek, <alt-shft-3> for Hebrew and <alt-shft-4> for Syriac). I have two computers with Windows Xp on the old computer and Windows Vista on the other. On the Xp machine I can use the keyboards in other programs than Logos, but in Windows Vista I need to type in a note file and paste it into email or Word etc. In either case, the keyboards work within Logos for entering search strings etc.

Thanks for the help. In Windows 7 I am able to type into Word as well. Seems my problem is solved!

I would like to see a tool like Logos's little utility Shibboleth integrated into Logos so we could type in Hebrew and Greek by clicking on a visual keyboard. Typing in transliteration for searches is fine, up to a point, but what about being able to type original languages into your Notes? Currently the only way to do it copy/paste.

I guess I edited out the key point I was trying to make in my post. For the Logos keyboards (which I've installed and tried out) you have to memorize where all the keys are or keep a keycap cheat sheet available somewhere. I would rather be able to click on a visual keyboard.

You should have very little trouble with the Logos keyboards since the alphabet / alephbet is position basically phonetically according to the standard keyboard. If you know where a Latin character is on your keyboard, you most likely know where the Greek or Hebrew character is as well. Learn to love it, but first learn to learn it.

Sorry, but when less than comfortable in an alphabet, I prefer to use the alphabet without going back to the Roman alphabet in which I am comfortable - it encourages me to assume phonetic equivalences that are in fact only approximate. And the number of alternative keyboard maps you use affects how easily a new one becomes automatic. While I would not put it near the top in priority, the idea of a screen keyboard has merit.

Though it isn't the best, Windows does have an on-screen keyboard under "Programs | Accessories | Ease of Access." You still need to type in the character rather than clicking on the on-screen keyboard.

Since they have a beautiful on-screen clickable keyboard already in Shibboleth, I don't know why it is such a big deal asking that it be integrated into a future version of Logos. I don't need it right now as I'm not doing much original language work, so I don't need to find an alternative workaround like using the windows keyboards (it's a pain switching back and forth between those and English anyway). But I might use a visual keyboard if I had it.

The only problem is you can't copy/paste from the Hebrew box (that's for display only). It's just to help people enter the proper characters for Unicode. And you can't even use Ctrl+C to copy from the Roman text box, because it's intepreting that keystroke as if you were clicking it on the keyboard. So you have to right-click and choose copy. And frankly, what's the point of copying and pasting that text into Logos. It's not quite transliteration; it's the characters behind the Hebrew scripts, which don't do anything for you in Logos, AFAIK.
