My suggestion from multiple threads has been that Logos ought to buy one or two dozen copies of Take and Read: Spiritual Reading: An Annotated List, put them into the hands of all the product managers, and tell them to start getting the rights to the books recommended in it. I don't think they sell even half of them. It's embarrassing.

Then, of course, they should also publish the book itself and give it away for free. It ought to pay for itself several times over in increased sales.

Yes, perhaps these sorts of things could be done in Vyrso. But the Logos editions are much nicer. Cleaner crisper text, easier to read. And of course if it's a scholarly edition with footnotes that refer to other stuff in my Logos library, I'd want those links hooked up.

Logos already sells Thérèse of Lisieux's Story of a Soul.

The main point I was trying to make with that post was here are a whole bunch of other great books that Logos doesn't sell yet, and they should. I didn't mean to start a whole critique about the quality of that starting set of 64 books as a way of choosing the best Christian book of all time. It's not the list I would have chosen. Purpose-Driven Life? Puh-lease! And I wouldn't have included Jane Eyre, great classic though it is. (Not surprising that those didn't make it past the first round.) But I won't quibble with Augustine's Confessions as the all-time winner. That seems fair.

Anyway, I reiterate: my main point was to give a bunch of suggestions to Logos for books they should get.

I know, and I agree. I was just trying to widen the list a bit. I would imagine virtually all of 'your' missing books are on Peterson's lists as well.

Don't have one and don't see any point in trying to create one...but if I were asked to produce a list of titles for Bible students, it would include primarily language resources and historical resources.

For the sake of explanation, the reason theology would hardly rank on my list is because prophecy undercuts most theology.

Wouldn't some of that be best put under Noet? I was thinking that Noet was eventually going to start adding more and more serious secular literature, and works like LOTR, even though it has Christian themes, would be great there.

The competition wasn't for "best selling" but "best." PP has probably outsold Narnia since it's been around much longer. But current voters are probably more likely to pick Narnia over PP because of familiarity. One could argue that Pilgrim's Progress has had a more significant impact in its 335 years, or that it's better literature (maybe), but it's probably not as beloved nowadays as The Chronicles of Narnia.

I would definitely support getting all the books from Peterson's Take and Read. Yes, he used to teach at Regent (from 1993-1998), and I had the blessing of studying under him and getting to know him personally. I completely overlooked that part of your post. Sorry about that. [:$]

Here's another source for good book suggestions: I've tried to invite the product managers up to Regent for an afternoon for a shopping spree at the Regent Bookstore (one of the best two remaining theological bookstores in North America). I'd buy them lunch and set them up with some credit or 20% off on whatever they buy, courtesy of me. But it would mostly be a chance for them to get to see an awesome and huge selection of books on just about every aspect of Christianity (weaker in the Eastern traditions, but even there they've got some stuff). But so far none of them has noticed my post or taken me up on it.

Last night I shot a video of the Classics section (Early Church fathers and the like) just to give Logos some more ideas (and to make everyone else envious that they don't have such an awesome bookstore in their city).

Since you probably can't see all the titles in the video, I'm in the process of transcribing them all. Can't finish it right now (will do so when I get back from Santa Fe) but here's what I've done so far. Hyphen before a title means Logos has that title, though in a different edition (or as part of ECF); eventually when I finish the list, * will mean (if there are any) that Logos has that same edition (digital version, of course). I haven't finished going through looking them all up to see if Logos has them already, but any of them up to the last hyphen you see which don't have a hyphen, Logos does not carry at all. The ones that have (??) after the title are ones where I could not tell the publisher/edition from the video and need to go back into the store physically to look at the book.
