Panel control is extremely frustrating.

I know that to control the size of a panel, I must drag the grey half-moon up or down. But each time I touch it, the "panel settings" window pops up. Are my fingers just too large? It would be a BIG help if, in the panel settings window there was an option to close top or bottom panel, since I can't seem to ever get it to drag properly.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S4

Any workaround?

I don't know of one. Have you tried using a stylus designed for touch screen?

The panel settings dialog appears when you "long press" on the splitter control. Perhaps it would help to try dragging a little bit faster and try to avoid letting your finger linger on the button without moving.
