Personal Books from Powerpoint

Hi,

I have been trying to find a way to use my notes from seminary and bring them into a powerpoint. As the wiki page suggests http://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books I have taken pdf and powerpoint files and exported them into a .docx file. The problem that I am having is that when I load my new .docx file into logos as a personal book all of the background and photos are not brought into logos. Is there a way to import all of the files together with the background and pictures intact? The issues is most of my notes and handnotes for class are loaded in as powerpoint or pdf files, but they are difficult to search. Once I combine each chapter, say for a church history class, into its own word file, I can then add a table of contents and search within my notes as I give each personal book file the series title "class notes". My problem at the end is that pictures, graphics and backgrounds that make the text visible are missing once I add them into Logos. Has anyone had any success with this problem?

How are you creating docx files from Powerpoint? Are you exporting each slide as an image and importing them separately or are you doing something else?

in the wiki article you mentioned there is a section on "Pictures and Images". Does this help at all?

I hope I can help. I have had success importing powerpoint images into my docx files used to create a PB. Here is an image of a recent sermon that I created into a PB. My sermon notes had images of the PowerPoint files that were displayed as I preach.

That is exactly what I am looking for! What I did was take my slides for Unit 1 of my history class that I just finished, combined them into one powerpoint, export them as a .pdf, then combined them with my .pdf notes from class, export them to .docx. What was your process?

As Graham hinted at in his question, there MAY be a problem in exporting the whole file into a PDF then merging PDF's into one docx. I know that PDF has a couple of different formats. One type of PDF basically takes a snapshot of your document and it is not searchable (usually a smaller file size), the other type of PDF retains the text when the PDF is created, making it searchable (PDF may be larger, but more useful). I am NOT an expert at PDFs, but picked up that tip by trial and error when I tried to cut and paste from PDFs that I was given.

I know it really slows down the process to import each PPT slide as a single image, but that is the only success I have had so far in creating PB.

PDF conversions are always tricky, and rarely exact.

Skip the PDF step and you'll probably find they work perfectly.

I was able to figure out the problem late on Saturday. For powerpoint files I export them as .png files, then create handouts that are outlines. Then I add both to an existing powerpoint file. Having both the slides and the outline information allows me to retain my original class notes that are in powerpoint slides and makes the data searchable. I simply add a table of contents that tags the title of each presentation. This may seem like alot of work, but it provides me with the opportunity to make the most out of my seminary experience. If I want to I can even create a powerpoint presentation, then load all the presentations from an entire class and then tag them. I have found that going one presentation at a time allows me to create multiply entries in my table of contents, thereby making the most out of my notes. This also works for conferences that I have attended and loading the conference data into a personal book. I also added a series title of "class notes" for each book that is based on my notes in class. It me 10-12 hrs of playing with this to get everything to work right. I used the free trail for Soda http://sodapdf.com/ to bring pdf files directly into .docx format. Hopefully my process made sense to everyone.

Here's the best $10 I spent on such a thing. I've been using it to convert PowerPoint slides and notes to .docx and then to epub and Kindle with Calibre.
