Experiencing a crash?

Hello! First time posting.

I am experiencing a crash with my Logos system. I am using a MacBook Pro, version 10.7.5, and I just downloaded the newest version of Logos 4 (4.63.0.0365).

Whenever I open Logos, instead of going to the Home screen, it opens to the last layout/books that I had open a few weeks ago. Then, when I try to click on another resource, it shut down unexpectedly. I can click on the "Home" button, but it won't bring up the main page.

I'm at a loss of what to do! Help?

Welcome to the forums Paul. Seeing that you are using 1.7.5 why not upgrade to the free engine for Logos 5 www.logos.com/installation.

You will need to post some logs for the "techies" to assist you with the crashing issue. http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging#Mac

I downloaded Logos 5, and it crashes upon opening. I went back to Logos 4 to try to post turn on "logging," but now it won't allow me to open that version, saying that some of my resources are not compatible with that version. Since Logos 5 crashes upon opening, I'm not sure how to turn on logging....

Help?

Paul, you do not need to start the software to run diagnostic logging. See the link in my thread. http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging#Mac

Paul - I too encourage you to update to L5. The engine is free, and there is no reason no to do so. It is unlikely to fix this issue, however, as the data files remain in place. In my signature line is a link for logging instructions.

Have you tried loading to a blank layout? Press and hold the command key immediately upon startup. As for loading to a layout vs the homepage... That is a user option under preferences.

I would try alabama's suggestion, but the software isn't open long enough for me to try it. I don't believe I have it set to open to a layout, it has never done that before.

Any other suggestions?

If you followed the link in my signature line, you would have been taken to THIS page, which outlines in detail the steps needed to enable logging. The short version:

Download the diagnostic tool
Run the tool and click logging "enabled"
Open Logos and allow it to crash
Access the diagnostic tool again and press "archive logs"
Attach the logs to a new post using the paperclip icon in the formatting pallet.

Are you talking about opening to a blank layout? You must IMMEDIATELY press AND hold the command key upon startup. As soon as you click the L5 or L4 icon, press and hold that key.

If you were talking about changing the preference to open to the homepage, you will likely need to get this issue fixed before you can change that preference back. Personally, I dont ever open to my homepage... it slows things down too much.

I ended up calling Tech Support during my break in class, and then went back to listening to the professor, which is why I neglected to respond to your most recent post. Sorry!

Apparently, my Library Archive was not correct, which was causing the crash. He had me delete the folder of the Library Archive, and it opened fine. Now it is indexing, but working fine. Thanks for all your help!

Very good. Since you are now using L5, you can use the L5 forum, which is much more populated than this ghost town. [:)]

FYI - You have many options for upgrading... If you decide you just want the new data sets, you can purchase a "minimal crossgrade." Bigger discounts, however, are to be found when purchasing base packages.
