Why so many updates?

Why does Logos 4 update so much? Seriously. A code update I can understand for patches/bugs etc...

What I don't understand is the 3 MB download that 'needs' to be re indexed. Unless a text is revised or I add to the library, why would LOGOS ever need to be re indexed?

no mandatory reindexin is required till you hit a certain %, logos 4 builds a supplimental index, but there should be no need to merge them..

every updated resource, needs done, as file offsets and other techhy stuff have changed, its well worth it tho..

You can always pause it if you need to do something

Logos IS updating the resources: better tagging for Logos 4, typo fixes, updated datasets for the Biblical People/Places/Things, etc.

You can turn off "Use Internet" in the Program Settings if it's annoying to you.

When did lots of updates become a bad thing? [:)] I'd much rather get lots of updates than have a product that isn't maintained.

You always get lots of updates when a new product is released.

I know of no computer software approaching the complexity of Logos that receives the level of attention to maintenance and improvement, much of which comes from out suggestions. I really appreciate the Tender Loving Care that we users receive from the Logos folks.

As it has been said, with the advent of L4, resources are being updated, so I am going to guess we are going to continue experience this for a bit. I hope so at least. I would like to see things like Anchor Bible Dictionary updated with more extensive tagging.

If this is an annoyance to you, what you could do is turn off the internet function for a bit and then just manually update from time to time.

1. Not all resource need to be indexed

2. Even 3 MB can take a while because all other resources have to be re-indexed with it! A secondary index (supplemental index) reduces the total time because it is much smaller than the main index.

Lots of updates becomes a bad thing when those updates take a lot of time to complete. The indexing process is very time consuming and resource intensive, particularly if your computer is a little older, so I can sympathize with those who are not completely happy. Thankfully Logos developed the supplemental indexing so that we can choose to recreate the full index when it is convenient for us. I do appreciate that the rate of updates has slowed to 1 every week or two, which is about how often I used to check for updates to Logos 3. Which reminds me I am also thankful that the update process is now automatic; I grew weary of having to run several update scripts to make sure my resources were up-to-date.

btw: Sorry to be a negative nelly, but the tags for these forum posts are growing out of control; it would be nice if they were cleaned up since there are a bunch of duplicates out there.
