Princeton Theological Review

While I would guess that the reformed community is much smaller than some other groups on these forums, I am puzzled about the seemingly low interest in this resource:

This would be incredible to have and I am wondering if there is some reason why people have not signed on to support it (seeing that it is only to about 20%). After John Gill's works this is one of the resources I am most excited about.

This has lots of support, but not for the right price. Given the large number of words in this collection, the bids are going to have to be higher if it's ever going to go into production.

Hey Mark,

You should check out some of the previous threads concerning this product. I previously bid on this one but the bottom line is that it's too expensive and it needs too much (high bids or lots of smaller bids) to push it over the production line. It's been around for awhile too....I think it needs to be broken up as a collection to have a better chance to be published.

One other idea that would be generally applicable and I think would help greatly. Would Logos consider doing some kind of indicator or counter on every community pricing publication that would state how much the bids would have to be at the current amount of people who have bid on a project in order to take it into immediate publication? For example, let's say that there are 200 people who have bid the $50 dollars on this project and it is at the 20% or so level. I would be willing to dramatically increase my bid on a project if I had some idea as to how many other people are supporting a given project. In this idea, the counter or indicator would say that currently X amount of people from the Logos community have bid on this project and at this current amount of support each person would have to bid Y dollars for this to go into immediate production.

Even if all of the people would not be willing to go up to that amount, some of the people may be willing to do so and that would probably also bring in new bids from others that see the increasing support for a given project. Just a thought but that would also show us how much support there is for a given project and would probably increase the productive discussions on these forums for any given project if we know how many people support something at the current levels.

I would agree and would double or triple or possibly go higher if I had some idea of the support for the project and what it would take to get it done.

The whole idea behind community pricing is to bid the highest you would be willing to pay. The higher the bid the sooner it will come to fruition, and possibly draw in more bidders after it crosses the line. Bidding too low will only insure that it will not gel, or you may have to wait until the second coming for it. I am 77 years old and can't wait too much longer. My bid is at $200, which would still be a bargain.

I am in at $250 and would gladly pay that. This is one of the few resources out there I REALLY want. I would buy two copies if I could just to get it into production.

That's the official tactic, but in practice many of us have a different strategy. If I want a CP product, but am willing to wait for it, I bid low. I'd rather wait for 9 months and pay $20 than wait for 6 months and pay $40. If others' bids mean the product crosses the line earlier, then I may up my bid to make sure I get it.

I know that this strategy probably frustrates those who are desperate to see things come to fruition, but the alternative is often not to bid at all. I have nearly $3,000 bid towards various CP projects (not including those that have since moved to pre-pub). I simply can't afford to up my bids in order to speed up progress (and if they all crossed the line together, I'd have to cancel most of them!).

The problem with this product is it's just too big. Apart from the Patrologiae (which have entry bids of $250, and have made no more progress than this collection), I can't think of any other CP titles even approaching this size.

I take the same approach but usually up my bid when I think a project has momentum. If I knew the bid based on the amount of people who have bid then I would for some projects bid up to that amount to get it moving (like this one). For this item. I am going to seriously increase my bid, but this type of information would help with other projects.

I remember when this came out on CP in March 2012. There was a big push on the forums to get everyone to place a low bid. That combined with this being a massive project of 443 issues, it is going to take until Y3K for this to get done. I suggest Logos removes this offering and reintroduces it in phases in smaller bundles, a bigger baseline bid or some other game changer. This has been out for nearly 18 months and is going no where fast. Just a suggestion.
