Hi Tim
I can successfully use "2 Cor 1:22" or "II Cor 1:22"
I am running on Windows (and I see you are on Mac) and running the 5.1a beta (as opposed to 5.1 SR-2)
It will be interesting to see if other Mac users see the same problem.
What is your default Bible? (I have no idea whether that is relevant at all[:)])

Can you enter 2 Timothy or 2 Thessalonians (etc.)?
You appear to be running this on a Mac OS. So other Mac users will have to confirm or not whether this happens on their systems. It's possible that there is something corrupt in the Mac distribution that creates a problem here.
If not typing rebuild Bible index in the command bar, may fix the issue. Please note that I am not totally confident that it will, since I'm don't fully understand how the problem is happening. This will only fix the issue if the problem is in the Bible index, and I'm not sure that it is, or that this behavior would be a result of a corrupted Bible index. But it's a cheap fix (just a bit of time), and if nothing else, it would rule out the Bible index as the culprit.
