L4 Resource DVD / copying resouces to DVD for second installation

I find the massive downloads required by L4 tedious, time-consuming and prohibitive - e.g. they exceed download limits or HDD capacity on a lap top.

Can (selected) resources simply be copied from one computer to another via CD/DVD? I understand that there may be some problems with this.

Do I need to go through that whole process or can I just copy the resources across into the appropriate folder?? i.e. install L4 - kill of indexing and then copy rsources.

How do you copy a working installation across? - I am not sure how to do that.

Any comments?

There are three options there, Dave is really the main man on this. Hopefully he'll be along to answer that question more clearly. The only method I've used is to stop the download and scan the resources saved somewhere.

Brian, as Thomas pointed out there are ways to do what you want. I've used the one Dave Hooton explains on the Wiki but not without problems. One extra thing you will need to do is either deactivate syncing or constantly kill off downloads because Logos will try to download all your resources onto your new installation. This also means you will not have automatic updates to your resources in the future. Clearly L4 is an all-or-nothing set-up.

While I can understand your interest in a limited installation, I wonder if it will be more trouble to you than it is worth. Laptop hard drives are inexpensive. I know you'd have to reload everything, but in the long run that might be your best solution is free space on your hard drive is the main issue.

In general selected resources cannot be copied to another computer for installation because L4 will download whatever is missing.

Methods 1 and 2 for copying a working installation to another computer (http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers) involve copying all resources and completing the installation in off-line mode to avoid the issues that Mark mentions re. downloads. Then you can Hide the resources you do not want.

If you simply do not have the HDD space, Method 3 has the potential to do what you want if you know which resources to delete beforehand.

NOTE: if you have one installation with a smaller number of resources it must remain off-line, and resources can only be updated by the scan command of Method 3. You would also have to manually update the software ie. without going online!
