I downloaded and installed A8, but it seems like I still have some books not incorporated into the main index.
Is this a bug, or should a force a merge of the indices?
Also, I get no results showing now in A8 even after about waiting 5 minutes for something to show up. You can see above, I get hits, but no results. Do you need logs for this, or is it a known issue?
This happened to me yesterday as well. I played around with it a bit and it started working. I couldn't replicate it again, so I let it go for now.
After looking at the windows Beta forum, I saw they had an indexing issue from a few betas ago. It looked to be fixed, so since mac shares the same base code, I figured it should be stable now. I forced a merge index and it is fired up and ready to run overnight. I will see what happens.
Actually, your problem and the one I had yesterday were different ones upon further reflection.
The good/bad news is that I just got the same problem because I bought a new book yesterday for my coursework. I can't display the results from the new book! Good thing I got L4 Windows!!!!
I can confirm Donavon's bug, but not Joe's. BTW, the search Entire Library for "the" seems to have taken almost 5 times as long as previously.
I know the New Resources switch appears to be closed, but I clicked on it multiple times without opening the list.
Looking at your screenshot, the Library Results expander is collapsed. It should've expanded, but maybe manually expanding it will reveal the results?
Also, the "New Resources" section does have a couple of bugs: a) that it shouldn't show up if there aren't any results and b) it should show results when it finds them .
As for whether or not A8 is indexing, the indexer behaves approximately like this: If you add fewer than 5% of new resources (as measured by fraction of resource count, not filesize), it will create a supplemental index (i.e. "New Resources" section); if you add greater than 5% but fewer than 25%, it will add your resources incrementally to the existing index; if you add greater than 25% it will rebuild your entire index. The specific thresholds may slightly different, but that's fairly close. As such, adding one or two resources probably won't result in a single index.
At least on mine, you can't expand it. If you click on the arrow, it does nothing, nadda, zilch!
I might also add that it doesn't give you the opportunity with a message to merge indexes like the windows version does.
Now that I merged the indices, I do, get results in the Bible search, but still no results in the Basic search.

When I downloaded Logos from the disc, it updated to A8 right away, before I could do any indexing. Is there a way to manually force the indexing?

Should that be BDAG?
Any necessary Indexing should start automatically. Was this your initial installation of L4 Mac? If so, you should see a little blue Logos icon in your Menu Bar. That is the Indexer. Hovering over it will give you an estimated time to completion—this is only a rough guess.
You can force indexing by typing "Rebuild Index" without the quotes into the command line. Wait for the suggestions to populate and select Rebuild Index from the list. It will take several seconds for the process to start. Be forewarned that, if you do this, you will be watching that little blue icon in your Menu Bar for a long time because this command will force a full rebuilding of your index. I did this to test the command, and the process took many hours to complete.

That'll teach you to test it! [;)]
At this point I consider L4 for MAC to have been a complete waste of money. The program, loaded from CD, has no resources; does not index; and from a practical point of view is useless. I do get a few listed books but when I try to open them the response always is "resource missing". I have L4 on my laptop running under XP and it works great but not with the MAC. I am running Snow Leopard and have 4g of RAM. I have downloaded from CD; from the Logos website and all to no avail. Comments about looking for a small blue Logos icon on the menu bar to force a manual index hasn't worked - I can't see a small blue icon. What now?

Welcome to the forums. I am really sorry this is your first impression of Logos for Mac. It is in Alpha stage, which is really only for testing purposes. If you go to the Wiki, you can read a bit more about it: http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Mac
The only thing I can suggest is to continue to run Logos for Windows for the moment. Logos for Mac has gone through eight releases in seven weeks. It is developing quickly, but my personal opinion is that it won't be really ready to be used and abused for another six months. (this is my opinion and not that of Logos)
If you do want to post your logs using these instructions, I would expect that you will be able to get it running with a bit of help. The instructions are here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/6731.aspx
Hope this helps at least a little!

I was trying so hard to make the command work that I forgot what it would do! [:$] Why couldn't I experiment with something simple like "Update Resources"? [:^)]
Welcome to the Logos 4 Mac Forum. Sorry that you feel this way; however, if …
I have L4 on my laptop running under XP and it works great
you have not wasted any money. The price of Logos 4 includes both Windows and Mac versions. The Mac version is pre-release. As Donavon said, it is not for serious use; it is for testing. Alpha testing is not for everyone. It lacks many features, it crashes, things don't go as expected. However, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed in the development of a valuable product.

BTW, the little blue icon is not to force a manual index. It is the Indexer, so the icon does not appear unless the Indexer is running (or frozen).
What now?
Read the links Donavon supplies. If you want to participate, post bug reports and your log files. If not, use the Windows version until the Mac version becomes more stable. I use the Windows version of Bible Study and occasionally open the Mac version to test it.
There is a lot of help on these forums. Come on in and join the family. [8-|]
