Hi Ronald

To get the yellow highlights - create a palette (I have called mine "Jay Adam") and created a yellow highlight within it.

I associated a key with the highlight - the letter "J"

Then I highlighted the text in the Bible, pressed "J" and the highlight was applied

I can disable / enable the highlights by unchecking / unchecking the "Jay Adams" notesfile

I also wish there was a way to display the different topics in the margins of the Bible, but I don't think this is possible.

I can't think you can do it in the margins - but you can get something "similar"

I created another highlight called "JA - Hope"

And applied it to the relevant text

You would need to create a separate highlight for each subject and I note you say that is probably not feasible.

A variation on Graham's idea. I would just use one highlighter. I would keep the note document open in a second panel. You can add a note indicator to the highlight note. In the note content section, you can add any text you want (I used Graham's idea of JA - Hope). When you hover over the highlight note indicator, it will show you the Note content (JA - Hope) and the name of the note document (in my case, "delete me").

Thinking about it a little more, I would drop the "JA -" from the note content and just name the note document Jay Adams (or whatever you want). NOTE: Make sure you know full well how storing notes & pallets work. If you aren't sure, ask. [:)]

This would do exactly what I want and I could turn on and off all the highlights easily. It would take a lot of time to set up each different topic, but it would be very useful to have all the verses highlighted and identified.

I think I understand how the storing of notes and pallets work. The pallets I created have the option "save to palette specific note file" selected. So any highlight under the "Jay Adams" palette will save to the Jay Adams note file.

Yes, and in this case, that is probably the best option for you. You can create as many of those highlighting styles as you want. Based upon what I see in your hard copy screen shot, personally, I would scrap that idea. I would not want "Life-Dominating Sins"(or some other long title) appearing before the text. If your desire is to see each and every one of these titles as you are reading, then that would indeed be the best choice.

If you were to go the note indicator route, you would have the advantage of needing to create only one highlighter, which you could assign "J."

You're correct. Some of the passages have more than one category and some of the categories are longer than I would prefer.

As much as I would like to have the highlights visible within the text it would likely become too distracting. Having the category show up within a pop up window is probably my best option.

if so, it might be worth experimenting and see which works best.

the specific highlights do show up in the text while the "popup version" requires a press on the icon which results in a popup. I think the latter works fine but worth checking if this is important to you.

I tried doing it both ways and I think the "popup version" works better. Having the categories within the Biblical text was too distracting when reading. They also did not show up on my Kindle. Here is a screenshot from my desktop.

Highlighting style can display an image in the Left or Right Margin, which can be used with a topical passage list in a visual filter:

Crown image is in the left margin of two Bibles. An option is creating image(s) of topical word(s).
