Some of my students have purchased Logos 5, Biblical Languages or Bronze. But we cannot find the NIV in their Library. Does any one have any information about it?

Thanks

The NIV is not included in any Logos 5 base packages; it is available as a separate purchase: http://www.logos.com/product/8787/new-international-version

But what about these resources, they are listed in the Compare page:

Aren't they NIV English text interlinear?

NIV | English-Greek NT | The English-Greek Reverse Interlinear New Testament New International Version (2011)
NIV | English-Hebrew OT | The English-Hebrew Reverse Interlinear Old Testament New International Version (2011)

I understand that the interlinear is a Logos product.  The Bible text is by a copyright holder that is very tight on permissions.

You're right, Nielsen ... it's confusing. The interlinears included in Bronze etc require you buy the Bible(s) separately. There's a very tiny asterisk that is quite easily seen with your magnifying glass.

    Thanks David for your comment,

The problem is that Logos website is showing these Bibles as available for the Packages, and some are buying the packages and are counting that the Interlinear NIV is included, but they are not finding it.

Denise, the asterisk is not about it. The asterisk is to say that the license to this resource is included but it is being built and when ready will be put available to me once I buy the package. Thats is what says:

    * License included with purchase. Content coming soon.

The interlinear IS included. The Bible is not. Having the interlinear without the text, however, is pointless since the interlinear interacts with the text. Many users will have already acquired the NIV, even through the "Free NIV" promotion run by Logos & the Publisher earlier in the year.

The website does NOT show this... but I can understand the confusion for those who arent familiar with the software. Here is a screen shot of the English bibles available in the various base packages. The NIV isn't listed. (You can purchase it for $10 HERE).

You are correct Nielsen!  Just a while back Logos removed the requirement for magnifying glasses by removing most astersisks.

But most purchasers just know NIV means 'not the NIV'. Similarly 'KJV' means 'not the KJV'. And so on.

I actually made the same mistake you made since I wasn't an experienced Logos5 purchaser.

Luckily, Logos now offers several new pre-pub videos on how to purchase Logos5:

Upgrading from a Logos Package You No Longer Own
Why Reverse Interlinear Bibles Are Not Real Bibles
Changes to Logos5 Purchasing (for Previous Logos4 Purchasers Only)

I bought my license in a week ago and I don't found the NIV, too.

Firstly if you write in the site - have the NIV interlinear site - we would not have the right to receive?

second I spent over U $ 1,000.00 to buy a version and so should not be used in the package?

For the Brazilian reality is much, much money!

Still I have to buy the NIV?!!

When Logos reworks the base packages, new contracts must be established with the publishers. Sometimes the publishers themselves request that resources be removed from base packages. It is my understanding that this was the case with the NIV. I did say above that having the NIV RI in the base package without the NIV text was worthless... But that isn't fully true, and having the RI in the package without the text is still beneficial to many people.

    1. Someone may purchase an L5 package and have already owned the NIV11. With the NIV RI, they now have access to that resource.
    2. If Logos DIDN'T include the NIV RI in the base package, than users like yourself would have to purchase BOTH the text AND the RI at a later date. Paying an extra $10 now is much better than paying an additional $50 for the text AND RI.
    3. At some point, Logos may be required to stop selling the NIV RI. Owning the license now, even if not used, could be beneficial later. I don't, for example, have a license for the NIV84 RI. Logos was required to stop selling both the text and the RI. There are ways to acquire the text, but the RI is much more difficult (and expensive) to pick up... You'd likely have to purchase someone's existing, older base package.

One more thing for clarification... You DID receive the "NIV Interlinear"... But the "NIV Interlinear" is a resource which requires the NIV text to be used!

Thats is not is what the Comparison page is describing. See the text when hovering over the NIV Interlinear. It says that it provides de English and original language text together. So, how come it is written in the description, this is the very utility of this page, compare what comes in the packages, and then you read this description and then you find out that it is not what it means.

There is no place saying that this is not included in the Packages. If this is so, why didn't Logos remove this description.

Also, as Alabama said, it is pointless to have the Interlinear without the English, so why is this description still in that page? What is the point?

Nielsen — I agree that it can be confusing... Perhaps something needs to be reworked in the copy. As an "insider," it is perfectly clear... But the advertisement should be written for "outsiders."

If I can get this snipet loaded perhaps this will help explain the wordings of the ads.

At the top is text from the NIV 11 with the interlinear turned on.

At the bottom is the interlinear - the 'surface' is the ENGLISH text included there. The MSS is the GREEK text included there.  there being the interlinear.
