Hide Resources Bugs

Windows version 5.1a SR-1

1. In Libary listing, going ctrl-Rightclick and selecting "Hide this resource", the operation does not "take".

2. In Library listing. selecting mutiple resources and dragging to "Hidden Resources" window in Program Settings, only one resource is hidden.

3. Hide P45 from The Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts (in fact, hide a bundle of them). Some show up in the list of "Hidden Resouces", the rest are in limbo-land.

I've just tried it and it worked fine.

Which version of Logos software are you using? Can you post logs after a failed attempt?

I usually don't do logs. If it's indeed something specific to my system, I'll live with it. If not, could Logos fix this.

This doesn't work in any version. You have to do this using Ctrl+right click on the selected resources.

I managed to do it the hard way, so I'm not going to work on this anymore.

But to help shed light on the problem:

1. In Libary listing, going ctrl-Rightclick and selecting "Hide this resource", the operation does not "take".

I just hid a resource this way in 5.1a SR-1 so please describe what you mean by "not take".

This was when I was using the Ctrl-Rightclick method on entries in Library listing. I was doing it fairly quickly on a series of items, one-by-one, but I made sure that the program responded each step of the way (e.g. menus appeared, items highlighted etc.). I found that many of of the items were not hidden, even on restarting Logos.

This doesn't work in any version. You have to do this using Ctrl+right click on the selected resources.

Ctrl-rightclicking did not work for me on a block of selected items. I cannot exactly remember, but I think that, done this way, only one item would be hidden.

It could be either the Ctrl-Rightclick or dragging. I can't remember. The "limbo-land" items did not appear either in the Library or the Hidden Resources list. I did it again and again (restarting the program a few times) until it worked. I cannot be sure whether the problem went away by itself, or through my repeated efforts.

Since there are isolated reports of crashes and sync problems, for the weirder phenomena I suspect synching/indexing issues rather than any Hide Resource bug. Of course, now I know that there are also some issues with Hide Resource functionality.

The issues of other users are not relevant to your issue. Sync errors would only prevent the action from being sent to Logos and/or other installations of yours. If Logos crashed during the 'hide' action it could affect the updating of databases that record whether a resource is hidden. A corrupt database would do the same, but seems unlikely as you eventually succeeded. That is why we request logs as they would settle an issue beyond doubt.

Sorry, I usually don't give out logs. Plus, I have already done what I needed to do.

Maybe some other users could chime in if they encountered this problem. Right now, it's starting to look like an isolated occurrence. [:S]

Just tried it with a few more resources. Now I can see that Ctrl-rightclicking items from Library sends some resources to the Hidden Resources list, but after a couple of them, Ctrl-rightclicking does not seem to respond.

Possible cause: one must first left click on an item, wait for a second or two when the high-light catches up with it, then Ctrl-rightclick the highlighted item etc. One cannot Ctrl-rightclick on an item, the focus does not move.

There may be other weird factors at play. But that's all from me for now.

Speculation: those who say that things are working normally. Did you try hiding multiple items? More than, say, 20?

I agree but I note that the wiki does state the "correct" procedure! I'll try this in v5.1 SR-3 to see if there has been a change in 5.1a.

After a couple of hours of testing, I can only conclude that the Hide Resource functionality is glitchy, at least, on my computer.

1. Double entries galore.

2. Right-click on hidden resource within Hidden Resources, one gets two choices "Unhide" and "Delete". [*-)]

It is confusing, but the superscript Delete also refers to using the keyboard Del key for the same result.

It does on Mac, so that's a bug.

Right-click on hidden resource within Hidden Resources, one gets two choices "Unhide" and "Delete".

I only get 'Unhide', so one of us has got a bug.

(Plus I have the little x, of course, so in that sense I too have two choices doing the same thing -- though I guess that means you have three choices doing the same thing.[:)])
