I own it and it's worth it!
It contains various quotes from "the founding fathers" of this nation and other important figures. Usually the quotes are some what related to the passage you are reading so they serve as good sermon supplement material. If you can afford it, get it!
Blessings!

Ps. Here are 3 random quotes (Spoiler alert: #3 goes right along with 9/11):
1) SELFLESS
“For God so loved the world that He gave.…”
JOHN 3:16Freedom Abroad
Colin Powell, the U.S. Secretary of State (2001–2005), serving under President George W. Bush, stated:Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those who did not return.
2) INSPIRING
And the light shines in the darkness.…
JOHN 1:5Lighting the World
Samuel Colgate (1822–1897), an American manufacturer and philanthropist of what has become the Colgate-Palmolive Company, stated:The only spiritual light in the world comes through Jesus Christ and the inspired Book; redemption and forgiveness of sin alone through Christ. Without His presence and the teachings of the Bible, we would be enshrouded in moral darkness and despair.
The condition of those nations without a Christ, contrasted with those where Christ is accepted, reveals so marked a difference that no arguments are needed. It is an object lesson so plain that it can be seen and understood by all. May “the earth be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
3) COURAGE
… and they did not love their lives to the death.
REVELATION 12:11United Flight 93 Memorial
“LET’S ROLL!”
On the morning of September 11, 2001, United Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco was hijacked by terrorists who claimed to have a bomb. With telephone confirmation that other planes had hit the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the passengers understood the hijackers’ intent.
Todd Beamer, a 32-year-old businessman picked up a seat-back phone and reached Lisa Jefferson, a GTE supervisor. He told her that he and others were going to “jump on” a hijacker who was guarding the passengers in the rear. Beamer asked her to pray the Lord’s Prayer with him. He also made her promise to call his wife, Lisa, and tell her that he loved her and their two little boys.
Dropping the phone after talking with Jefferson, Beamer said, “Jesus help me.” Then after reciting Psalm 23, he said, “Are you guys ready? Okay, let’s roll.” Those were the unforgettable last words Beamer said before he and others rushed the hijackers of United Airlines Flight 93. There were screams, then silence.
Brave American civilians, complete strangers, rose against impossible odds and tried to save the 757–200 aircraft. In doing so, they made the ultimate patriotic sacrifice. United Flight 93 crashed into a large field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all 44 aboard. Of the four hijacked planes that morning, United 93 was the only one that failed to hit a targeted site.0 -

I bought it on pre-pub and read the entire book. If you already have NKJV I don't think it is worth the money

I've seen it (the paper version) in a bookstore, and I frankly find the concept kind of baffling and misguided. People so often mistake American patriotism for evangelical Christian discipleship, and this edition of the Bible only goes to reinforce that idea. But the actual text of the Bible speaks against conflating national pride with following Jesus ("Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." and other such texts.) How they can have all these sidebars alongside that text is beyond me. Are people really reading the biblical text, or just the colorful accompanying articles?
This doesn't mean we can't love our country and be patriotic, but to intermingle that with our faith ends up watering down the latter and causing us to misinterpret Bible passages as if they were somehow connected to American national interests. I don't like seeing the American flag in church sanctuaries on a par with the Christian flag, or sometimes even higher. Our allegiance should be first and foremost to the Lord, and only secondarily to our country. This Patriot Bible seems to have it turned the other way around, or at least equates the two. It ensures that people will read the Bible through a certain lens (American exceptionalism) that I believe is totally foreign to it and wrongly imposed upon it.
Rather than packaging the Holy Scriptures in images and stories of American glory, I'd rather see a separate book like America's God and Country: Encyclopedia of Quotations available in Logos. Surely the history of America is important and is punctuated through and through with Christian overtones. But let's keep God's Word and His might from being subservient to our country's history and power.
On the other hand, I don't deny Logos the right to sell this book. I just don't recommend it.

Rosie, I more than understand your misgivings - especially considering your theological tradition.
I would like to add Niebuhr's Christ and Culture to your list...

Yes, that should definitely be in Logos's arsenal (sorry, the topic of discussion led to a military metaphor slipping out), especially since they sell a book on rethinking the thesis of that book: http://vyrso.com/product/13705/rethinking-christ-and-culture-a-post-christendom-perspective
