Advice: Nexus 7 (2013) or note 8?
Looking towards a small tablet purely for offline study, I see the Nexus7 has a larger resolution screen, but is almost ?$100 cheaper than note 8, Micro SD for logos not important as it isn't used..
Any one tried both yet?

I haven't tried both but I recommend the nexus 7, it's all that I need and may suit you as well if you just want to read.

I tried both and own the Nexus 7 version 2. I call it "Gizmo". Enjoy!

Nexus 7 runs Logos great. The higher res screen is a significant demarcation because of the high quality of text compared to lower res screens like the Samsung or the iPad mini.
As a tablet the Nexus 7 is better, feels better, more substantial and will always get Android updates faster.

If you haven't purchased yet, might want to look at the Nook HD+. I just got one and I'm enjoying it. Full HD screen with a dual-core processor, 1 gig of ram for $150. Expandable via micro sd.

Nexus 7 (2013 version),
but go fo the extra $40 and get 32GB rather than
the baseline 16GB unless you have a small library,
don't take mny photos and avoid videos and music.0
