While I have used L3 and now L4 for my studies, I have not taken advantage of many of the features in the program. I have some time with Christmas and have been reviewing the program videos. So I have some questions.

 What is the criteria for attaching a type to a resource? While some are obvious (Bible, Bible Commentary) there are a few that I do not understand (Clause Visualization, Monograph). I see from some posts that only LOGOS can change the type. What is the significcance of the type and what is its uses?

What is a series tag? I assume there are other types of tags?

This all may be related, but what is the meaning or purpose of metadata?

Type helps determine whereabouts a resource can be used. "Dictionary" is a broad category though, taking in English dictionaries, ancient language dictionaries (lexicons) and bible dictionaries. "Clause Visualization" is a Syntax Search document showing sentence/clause analysis. A "Monograph" addresses a specific subject eg. "Alone with god", "All the questions in the bible", "The Amarna Letters". Type "Grammar" discusses ancient language grammar! It helps determine resources that can be used in particular sections of  a Guide or when keylinking eg. bible references, Strong's numbers, Greek words.

What is a series tag? I assume there are other types of tags?

A series "tag" usually identifies resources that belong to a commentary set, so that one can reference a section on Mark from a book that discusses John.

"My tags" is the only one that a user can create and use. Others are available by right clicking on a column heading in Library.

This all may be related, but what is the meaning or purpose of metadata?

Metadata is information about a resource that is contained within the resource, separate from the readable text. This includes "tags" like title, type, language, subject, author, publisher +  "data" like version, searchable fields, indexes etc. You see much of this in Library and when you select Resource Information (the i icon).
