Bob Pritchett - Can we get Biblical Archaeology Review update on Prepub?

As of right now BAR ends at 2005 in Logos and the Biblical Archaeology Society has plans to release their own digital version of their magazine (see http://store.bib-arch.org/specials.asp)

I have called and emailed BAS, but apparently they still feel this is the best decision.

I don't know how a product makes its way to the prepubs, but maybe if the support exceeds the cost they will be willing to release in Logos as well (I know it's wishful thinking).

How can we get Biblical Archaeology Review on Prepub?

How about giving us links so that we can write them ourselves? Maybe if they start getting daily e-mails about this, they'll change their mind.

I know it's not likely, but I just wonder if BAS has any idea how many updates they would sell in Logos. That's where the prepub is a win-win for them. I

I sent them a nice message that asked them to reconsider. I, also, added that I would not buy any digital resource that was not formatted for use with Logos.

They are probably not happy about the terms Logos offered them and have decided to show it by doing their own thing. Either it will bite them in the end and they'll come back cowering to Logos and accept the dismal deal. Or they will be able to sell enough on their own to bypass Logos and thumb their nose at them. Logos is a hard bargainer. They do probably make more money in the end that way. But they probably leave some users less than satisfied. Personally, if I were running the company, that isn't a trade-off I'd want to make. But I'm not running the company, and those in charge think that's what it takes to stay in business long into the future. I'm not a business person, so I'd probably fail miserably at what they are doing. I try to make everyone happy. They try to make most people happy and be successful at the same time.

I contacted them a few months ago with the same request but they said that they were not prepared to move ahead with Logos in the near future. I hope this position can be changed.

As much as I'd like to see the latest BAR in Logos as well, I will continue to support the BAS. I subscribe to the print copy of BAR and find their pricing on the back catalog to be fair. It is unfortunate if Logos and BAS couldn't reach agreement on the revenue sharing (assuming that was the dispute of course), but these are resources that I simply cannot do without regardless of whether or not they are in Logos. I am convinced that Logos has the customer's best interest at heart most of the time and don't expect them to break the bank, but certainly there are areas of study where they are not offering the best available resources...Archaeology being one of them I'm afraid. I'd actually pay more than BAS is charging for these resources to see them in Logos again...but maybe Logos has stats that indicate that my position is in the minority. Nevertheless, I'll keeping paying for the magazine and hope for better days.[:)]
