Indexing Perseus Collection causing overheating

I guess my MacBook Pro is having trouble indexing the Perseus Collection. It keeps getting close to overheating and I have to pause the indexing and wait for it to cool down. This has been going on now for too many days and I am wondering if I should (or even can) remove the collection from my laptop before I lose my computer. If I simply close the lid/put it to sleep it then crashes.
Please lend me some advice. I am fearful of the consequences if I don't find a solution soon.

Could you get one of those laptop cooling pads (aka chill mats) to put it on?

They're about $20 - $30 and you can find them on Amazon.com or by googling laptop cooling pads.
Short of that I don't know of any other solution other than getting rid of the collection, or hiding all but whatever few items in it you think you might use.

Out of curiosity, what are your computer specs? Where is your MBP when you are indexing?
