Libronix files-Can Logos 5 read them

Does Logos 5 read the old Libronix LBXOEB file formats? If so how does it work? If not, WHY?

It seems there are many of these older formats around but no one can seem to use them if they have a newer LOGOS program.

After asking it also seems no one has their original file to be able to compile it in the new format.

Great questions James. The L3 Personal Book Builder (PBB) files in the LBXOEB format were compiled out of an html based file for Libronix (L3) but they were greatly limited in terms of highlighting and other issues. They were not full citizens with regular Logos Books.

With the advent of L4 & L5 the design decision was made to make the Personal Books (PB) into full citizens in the Logos library. This meant a new compiler, and it meant making things easier. By switching the source document from HTML which only some people know how to use to DOCX (which can be produced by anyone with the worlds most popular wordprocessor from Microsoft or with LibreOffice for free) Logos was able to standardize a source document.

The new Docx based personal books compile right into Logos via the book builder interface found under Tools >> Personal Books. Once compiled they function just like regular Logos books.

And soon PB sharing will be enabled, Logos has been building the structures in for that for some time.

Yes, behold my great consternation. I hosted over a thousand L3 PBB's on my site before it crashed and burned, I am rebuilding to get them all back. I am also trying to upload Docx files for the ones I am able to get.

Tom answered your second and third question, and the concerns you raise in the rest of your post admirably.

However, in case you didn't read between the lines, the answer to your first question is: No, Logos 4/5 can't read the old LBXOEB format books.

Should have mentioned this in my earlier post, but rather than edit, I'll just add another post.

While Libronix PBB's can't be read in Logos4 or 5, you can have both Logos 5 and Libronix installed at the same time, on the same computer (provided Libronix will run on that computer).

IF you buy a Libronix product and install it on your machine with a Libronix license, it will work in Libronix. If you then install Logos 5 on your computer, those Libronix files should convert to Logos 5 as long as you have a license for those books your purchased in Libronix. This is what I understand. I have all my Libronix books converted into L5.

Further, I understand that if you call Logos with your Libronix License then you can have these resources converted without installing Libronix on your machine.

What I do not know is whether I could NOW buy a Libronix disk and have it converted via a phone call to Logos.

In almost all cases the answer is "Yes." (Note that there are pirated Libronix discs out there. [heavy sigh] )

Also note that the original poster was asking about LBXOEB files. These are personal books that are compiled specifically for Libronix. They cannot be read in Logos4 or Logos5.

Any idea when you might have the Word files for the Libronix PBB you had? I can convert to DOCX with no problem.

I appreciate all the work you and others have done to make books available that might not be otherwise.

Right now I'm not sure. I started a complete site rebuild in order to get all of the original PBB's back up. Health problems in the family have halted my work again. Perhaps I can continue soon. We shall see.
